<div class="quote_poster">Quoting cubanballer:</div><div class="quote_post"> javier sotomayor holds the world record in high jump, which is 2 meters 45 centimeters (more than 8 feet)... think about that, he has to get his entire body to clear 8 feet. his vert has to be off the charts. </div> Yea, but the high jump is different from a vertical jump...a high jump, you have to jump and twist your body...it's not like he jumped 8 feet straight up in the air. I agree his vertical is probably amazing, but its really hard to compare...
i think it's more fun to talk about who got the highest vertical IN THE NBA... not in the world... because, who cares really besides the NBA cats? But this ain't my thread and I want to say the NBA cat with highest vertical could be stephon "knick knick knick" marbury.

Michael Wilson from the globe trotters has a 51 inch vertical. Shoot, everytime I c the globe trotters play now, I never c him. Damn, Cedric Ceballos is their high flyer.
i have a 54 inch vertical- beat that all you crappers out there that take a dump 10 times before a game!

Why doesn't anybody touch the top of the backboard and dunk it. That's never been done before, I did that on a 8ft rim, wow. But yeah, I just wanna see somebody touching something I think that's 13ft up. Lebron, Kedrick, please somebody.
If there is/was a person in the NBA with the mythical 50" vertical, it was probably Spud Webb. One of the greatest verticals I've seen that hasn't been mentioned may be Michael Powell (record holder of the long jump). Guy threw it down with 2 hands from the free-throw line with ease. Doesn't neccesarily equal vertical, but he definitely had springs.

Me and my dad seen that, the foot locker contest with Mark Henry and Kenny Lofton. MP really looked like he was walking in the air.
Oh I forgot to mention, a old school playground legend @ Rucker Park with a supposed 50" vertical was The Goat. For those that know I don't have to say anymore.

Anybody ever heard of a guy named JD and claimed he had a 75 inch vertical? Plus he said he was training Vince Carter, his jump program site isn't on anymore. I wonder why. Oh and he said his program could give u a additional 21 inches.
