<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While the Lakers got the most important member of their starting five back on Thursday, they also lost one of their clutchest playoff performers. Point guard Derek Fisher agreed to a six-year, $37 million deal with the Golden State Warriors, agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN Insider Chad Ford. The deal is for the Warriors full mid-level exception. The choice for Golden State is interesting, as just last summer they signed point guard Speedy Claxton to a multi-year deal and traded for point guard Nick Van Exel. The Lakers, Heat, Rockets and Sonics also pursued Fisher this summer.</div>

No joke fellas, Fisher is a Warrior. This information came out of nowhere and something I definitely didn't expect, but he indeed signed a six year 37 million dollar deal to play in the Bay Area. He went to pursue his dream of going back and being a starting point guard in the league again, and since I did have a problem with it before, I respect the fact that he knows he can be a starting PG in this league and that he doesn't want to be a sixth man anymore. Derek, thanks for all the wonderful memories as a LA Laker for the seven years you brought to our proud franchise. You'll be sorely missed. [IMG]

Can he even start in GS though? They have Speedy Claxton and NVE at the point already. Speedy owned him in the playoffs when he was with the Spurs, so I don't see Fisher beating him out for the starting spot. The Warriors have also talked about running Dunleavy a little at point this season. Unless the Warriors have another trade in the works to clear up the logjam at PG, I can't see Fisher beating out Claxton or NVE.

He will not be starting for the Warriors unless Speedy is gone, which I don't think will happen. NVE should be gone by next season, maybe in a S&T with Damp included.

Chalk up another mistake by Kupchak. Fisher was our locker room leader and held the team together when they were having problems. He's a great addition to the Warriors, and will be a solid veteran leader. The Lakers are going to miss him on and off the court, I never thought Fisher was a great player, but he's definitely a leader and a spark plug. The Lakers don't really have anyone to replace him, and there are no free agents out there to add to the mix for the Warriors. Hopefully the bright spot in all this is having Payton step up and also having Sasha get more minutes to develop his game. The Laker bench was bad enough last season, this year it looks even worse.

Yeah i wish New Jersey tried to push for him but we have our own problems. but he would be getting paid to much to just sit on the bench. I would have loved to see him as a backup for Jason Kidd. He would have made a great half court game for us with him. But damn GS has a lot of PGs what are they going to do rotate PGs to the 2 spot

GSmust be trying to get rid of Van Exel with this move, Seems like fish wanted the dough, he definetly has his work cut out for him there they are heavy on Guards, Houston would have been a really good place for him.

i wouldn't be surpirsed if it was the money and and an assured 6 year contract. someone in his position would want to be set for the rest of his career, although i can't see an increase in his playing time considering nve presence.

I have a feeling that NVE will be traded. Very likely he will be packaged in with Dampier when they try to trade him. Who knows though. But, otherwise, if they don't trade NVE, I don't find a point to this signing. They already had 2 capable point guards and a 3rd really isn't necessary. So, a pointless signing unless they say bye bye to either Van Exel or Claxton.

Payton is still a Laker. There were talks about him wanting a trade and what not but it has yet to happen.

I respect his decision to go, but he could've done a sign-and-trade to attempt to bring Dampier to the Lakers...or something...but that's fine. Bon voyage, Derek.

Does anyone else think he should've gotten more than just the mid-level exception? I love Fisher.

As disciplined and loyal Fisher is, he probably left because of Shaq's departure. I don't believe the reason that article states. It looks like the Lakers are hopeless succeeding in the playoffs because Fisher was the backbone of the Lakers in the playoffs.
