Later, a man in a Pistons jersey approached Artest on the court, shouting at him. Artest punched him in the face, knocking him to the floor. Artest was pulled away, and the fan charged back. Teammate Jermaine O'Neal stepped in and also punched the man in the face. I wanna s this.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post"> Thats classic right there. Some people seem to dislike Artest for what hes done in the past but i think he shouldnt be suspended but Ben Wallace should. I think Ron Artest couldve taken Ben wallace but he didn't even attempt to because he didnt want to get suspeneded. But I doubt Artest was scared of Ben wallace because I saw him fight this guy named Horse who's twice the size as ben wallace and Artest layed him out him out.
This was one the most craziest things I have ever seen...HOW ABOUT THE FAN THAT JUMPED OUT OF THE F-ING STANDS AND GOT KNOCKED OUT BY ARTEST. Then Jermaine O`Neal just threw a solid KO at the fan and stood over him. I thing the most scariest thing is was the old man that was in the mix of the fight laying on the ground. Stephen Jackson, Ron Artest, O`Neal, Jamal Tinsley...god what going happen to them. This HAS to be the biggest brawl in sports history.
I didn't read much of this thread except for a little bit of the 1st page, but here;s my stand on the situation. Artest was only acting in defense. He did the right thing, go to the announcers table, don't get involved. He was chillin' there, staying out of trouble. Ben throws a towel at Artest, he stays cool, doesn't go after him. I think when the fan threw the beer, he just set off and went off on the fan. I do not blame Artest for what he did. He was defending himself. What would you do in his situation? I know that after all of that happened between the 2 teams, then I get hit in the face, I would probably do the same thing and go after the fan. I think JO and Jackson did what they thought was right, and I think it was right as well. Teammates become so closely attatched to eachother. When you see them in trouble, you want to help them out. Jackson and JO were only coming to his aid. And as far as the fan getting knocked out by Artest and JO on the court, he had it coming to him. When that idiot stepped foot on the floor, he deserved it.

Did you guys see that black guy, Punching Fred Jones from Behind?, BIG BLACK GUY, That is cheap man, Real Cheap!
Actually it was a white man in a blue shirt, white hat if I'm not mistaken. I think your thinking of the guy hitting Fred Jones in the back of the head. Either way, the fans were wrong in doing so.

Artest was seeking revenge, NOT defending himself. Artest's life wasn't in danger, his ego was hurt when the beer hit him.
iamme, if someone was intimdating what would you do? Depending either walk away or try to fight them, Artest just stayed cool then. If you were trying to chill and become calm and someone tries to intimidate you more by throwing a towel at you? Artest still stayed calm. Then after all that a crazy fan throws a beer at you. He didnt get the guy who threw the beer but he got a guy who was laughing at him. If you go to a bar or something and someone throws a beer at you they are trying to intimidate you and have it in for them.

It was all about "being a man" versus actually acting rationally.

If you're in a bar, there's no security around to protect you and pursue that person. Unless you stand up for yourself, they might go after you even harder. If Artest was actually trying to protect himself, he would have told the security people what happen, point out the fans, and walked AWAY from the situation not into it.
Artest has ALWAYS been hot-headed. I feel the facts of the matter are this: Ben was angry at the fact that the Pacers countered every move that the Pistons made to make a comeback and take the game. Also, you have to remember the emotional roller coaster of the loss of his brother and his return to the game to beat the Wolves. Artest fouled him hard, but they are told that if your gonna foul someone, make sure it's not an AND-1 situation. He was probably going to leave the floor after that foul since the game was over. Ben took exception to what he felt was a cheap flagrant and shoved Artest around the neck/chin area. The ref (who looked like a 6th grader among the players) held Artest back, BUT Artest was not making a move towards a confrontation which is what Ben was going for. Rasheed.........RASHEED WALLACE of all people was the peace maker. He pushed Stephen Jackson aside while he was trying to break up the fight. Jackson took exception to the amount of force used, and Lindsay Hunter started yelling at him (don't know where that came from) and Derrick Coleman (He's about 62 years old) got Hunters back. That was when you saw Jackson get into his boxing stance at the bottom of the screen and he and Coleman were jawing. I personally thought that Artest laying on the table was more of a taunt, but he may have had to lay down after when Ben did, at Ben. Ben threw the towel and he got up, but laid back down. That's when the cup was thrown (in which the television crew said that the fan with the white cap who started punching Artest from behind was the one who threw it) and Artest made his way into the stands. Just to clarify, the fan that Artest attacked ACTED LIKE he was the one who threw the cup. If you were innocent and someone came at you, you put up your hands and point at the culprit. Most of the following was continuously shown, so I think you got the idea. Like in most sports, there are security guards present, but when a fan gets on the field, it's about self-defense. The guys that Artest and O'Neal (and an assistant coach) hit on the court deserved every ounce of the force throw towards their jaws. Not to be long winded, but there's the Right way and the Real way. In all actuality, Artest WAS in the wrong for going into the stands, Wallace WAS wrong for going after Artest, but the fans have about 80% of the rest. The reason that Artest was wrong was because (and he DID say this in an interview not even a week ago I believe in his automobile) he is a role-model, if he wants to be or not, and has kids looking up to him. They did add footage of fans that were stunned and children crying.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post"> Runnn....</div> that is frikkin halarious. I was laughing for like 10 minutes. It was the fans fault. If someone through a beer at me i would send them in the hospital

<u>VIDEO: INSANITY.. </u> Scroll down a little, look towards the right, theres a link.. These actions were totally uncalled for. Wallace had no reason to push Artest, and Artest and Wallace shoulda walked away. I never knew Stephen Jackson was like that, I thought he was always, calm, and composed. Both teams should be fined, Artest should be out for atleast 8 games, Jackson for 8 also, Wallace for atleast 5. UNACCEPTABLE. This is what's wrong with the NBA. Security? I didn't see the game, but saw the highlights. The hit Artest got on that fan was insane. He just walked up and punched him. During all this, I only saw 1 police officer. J'O -- no reason to punch anybody. This couldve been as bad as Kermit Washington's punch on Rudy T. The NBA needs to take action..
Where are all the Pacer fans on this board? Their team is going to be by far most affected by this situation, but I haven't heard much from them. There's a chance that Artest, Jackson, and O'neal could be done for the season, which would probably knock the Pacers out of the playoff picture. I wouldn't want to see that happen, but the possibility is there.
