<td><font face="verdana" size="1">Smith earned second team all-state honors as a junior and is the second ranked QB from Florida behind Georgia-commit, Aaron Murray. He threw for 1,597 yards and 21 touchdowns last year. In terms of his recruitment, he has a top five of Auburn, Boston College, Flordia State, LSU, and Michigan.

Smith is an explosive athlete who can beat the defense with both his legs and his arm. He has above average footwork and possesses good pocket presence. He does throw a very good ball with little wasted motion, but his delivery looks somewhat awkward. He has good vision downfield and can throw on the run. Not the fastest of the dual-threat QB's, but is still very dangerous on the ground.</font></td>

Michigan's recruiting heats up in Florida

Smith has been invited to the prestigious Elite 11 Camp held from July 21-24 in Southern California. He is the 5th selection so far. The others are: Matt Barkley (USC), Zach Mettenberger (UGA), Aaron Murray (UGA), and Tom Savage (Rutgers).

What was most impressive on Monday: Has really improved on his accuracy from his previous two camps at Miami and Gainesville.

On the Hoof: Smith is the leanest of all the competitors. His body is built like a basketball shooting guard, similar to that of A.D. McPherson out of high school.

Conclusion: Currently the only uncommitted quarterback competing at the Elite11. Since he is one of the few top-rated quarterbacks yet to make up his mind, I expect his recruiting to really become a heated battle.</div>

Several quarterbacks have big days to open Elite 11 | ESPN

"Eugene really understands the game," Martin said. "I love the tempo he plays with. He never rushes anything and is always under control. He threw the ball very well today and you can tell he still has a lot left in his tank."

McCarron, at 6-4, 180 pounds, reminds us a lot of former Elite 11 and Alabama QB Brodie Croyle. Like Croyle, McCarron has that shaggy brown hair and same live arm. He has one of the quickest releases in the camp, is very light on his feet and got a lot better as the day went on.

"I thought he improved more from the start of the workout to the end than anyone else I saw," James said. "He has a lot of physical tools but mentally, you could tell he was starting to understand things more. When the game slows down for him, he's really going to make a big jump."</div>
