this one is going to be a banger!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>UFC UK head: Bisping vs. Leben to headline UFC 89
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Jun 27, 2008 at 10:47 am ET
A bout between "The Ultimate Fighter 3" winner Michael Bisping (16-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and veteran UFC middleweight Chris Leben (18-4 MMA, 8-3 UFC) will headline a recently announced UFC 89 event.

Marshall Zelaznik, the head of the UFC's UK division, made the announcement this week on Setanta News Ultimate Talk Show, a weekly UFC news show that airs on the U.K.'s Setanta Television.

UFC 89 takes place Oct. 18 at The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

Zelaznik said that both competitors have agreed to the fight, though he didn't clarify if bout agreements have been signed.

Bisping and Leben had been scheduled for a June 7 event in London. However, Leben was forced off the card when he had to serve jail time for a probation violation stemming from an earlier DUI arrest.

Bisping, England's most popular UFC fighter, suffered his first career defeat this past November in a split-decision loss to Rashad Evans. He's since rebounded for first-round knockouts of Charles McCarthy and Jason Day. He'll now fight in a UFC-England event for the fourth time.

Leben, a production of the first season of "The Ultimate Fighter," hit a recent skid when he suffered three losses in the span of four fights. However, he recently scored a third-round knockout of Terry Martin and a first-round TKO of Alessio Sakara.</div>

I just see Bisping being to explosive and too skilled for Leben. I love both fighters so I hope it's a good back and forth war!

I hope it's not the main fight. Leben will be tough and fight hard, and Bisping will be impressive, but I think they need something bigger. They need something like Huerta vs. Sherk on it too, or Bonnar vs Rashard.

I'm sure it's not the main event on the card, but it will be big part of the card. I really like this pairing, two tough guys that like to bang, and will stand up and put on an interesting fight. I am very interested in seeing this fight, could be a very fun one to watch. Not expecting Leben to win either, but I think he can give Bisping a tough fight.

It's in the UK so I'm going to say it will be the main event, but will be accompanied by a strong co-main event.

Yea, In the UK it should be decent enough as a co-main event.

hmm now this should be a very interesting bout. I would assume Thiago has been told to make weight for this fight if he has any title aspirations.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>While the welterweight division looks towards a championship match in August between current titleholder Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch, the weight class will continue to build towards a new top contender as MMAWeekly.com has learned that American Top Team knockout artist Thiago “Pitbull” Alves is slated to return on Oct. 18 to face former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Diego Sanchez.

The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight. There is currently a verbal agreement with actual bout agreements for the contest expected to be signed in the next few days.</div>

    WOO HOO! GOOD NEWS!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>UFC 89 expected to air via tape delay on Spike TV

UFC 89, an event headlined by Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben, is expected to air on free basic cable as a Spike TV broadcast.

Although a Spike TV official told MMAjunkie.com that the station has no comment at this time, a source close to the event says show organizers plan to air the thee-hour broadcast in prime time via tape delay from The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

Dave Meltzer first reported in the Wrestling Observer that the event would air on Spike TV.

If everything goes to plan, UFC 89 will use the broadcast blueprint used for UFC 70 and UFC 75, two other events that took place in England. After the event takes place live overseas, U.S. audiences (on the East coast, anyway) will get the broadcast on an approximate five-hour delay.

Although the current UFC-Spike TV contract (which runs through 2011) calls for four annual "UFC Fight Night" events, the two parties ocassionally negotiate for other shows, such as the "Ortiz vs. Shamrock III: The Final Chapter" live event that aired in October 2006.
Spike TV pays a flat fee for the broadcast rights and then sells advertising to recoup the costs.

According to Meltzer, the UFC plans to hold a pay-per-view event the weekend after UFC 89. The Spike TV broadcast would serve as a way to promote the event.</div>

Sweet, UFC definitely helps out Spike.

Well Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves is an exciting co-main event. Man I really want to see that one.

Freshly signed British UFC fighter Dan Hardy is expected to compete at UFC 89 in the UK. Odds are good that Marcus Davis, Paul Kelly, Paul Taylor, Cheick Kongo and Jess Laiudin could be competing on the card.

    Wanderlei to fight in September!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In the same interview on Sportsline.com that White confirmed a potential fight between BJ Penn and Georges St.Pierre he also confirmed Wanderlei Silva will be fighting in September. There are two cards in September that we know of right now UFC 88 in Atlanta and UFN-15 in Nebraska, my guess would be UFC 88. Even though seeing a free Wanderlei fight would not bother me in the least bit. White also confirmed that the UFC's next destinations will be Chicago in October and Boston in November.</div>

Wanderlei to be on the same card as Chuck, Franklin, possibly Silva, possibly Henderson? This card seems way too stacked, I would be shocked if UFC 88 is finalized with all these big names on their.

They were willing to put Wanderlei on the UFN 14, but he didn't do it because of the short time in between fights. I wonder if they'd put him on UFN 15 in Nebraska?

As expected, Paul Kelly will fight Marcus Davis, and Jess Laiudin will fight David Bielkheden at this event.

C'mon Joe Silva, wow me already.

Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva possible for UFC 89.

    Oh noes! [IMG]

I don't like to see my favourites fighting each other.

Should be an exciting fight, though.

Somebody's 'O' has got to go!

Unless Thiago's footspeed is too much for Machida to avoid, Machida will pick him apart IMO.
Still should be a great fight.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Plans are set for the UFC to hold its first-ever event in the Chicago area. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, UFC 90 is slated for Saturday, Oct. 25, at the All-State Arena in Rosemont, IL (just outside of Chicago).

“Chicago is a huge market for us,” UFC President Dana White is quoted as telling the Sun-Times. “We track pay-per-view buys for our events and ratings on Spike TV, and Chicago is a killer market for us.

”There are tons of fans in Chicago and around Chicago, and it’s going to be one of the places we hit often. It’s a great fight town, and we’re really pumped that we’re finally getting this done.”

The UFC had purposely avoided Chicago because until recently, the state did not regulate mixed martial arts. However, minor tweaks in the state law now gives the Illinois Athletic Commission the authority to sanction MMA events.

Tickets for UFC 90 are expected to go on-sale to the general public on Aug. 9. UFC Fight Club and UFC.com newsletter subscribers will have access to special pre-sales in the days leading up to the general public on-sale date.

No bouts for the card have been announced or are even rumored at this time.</div>

hmm wonder what the big fight on this card will be? You know they're gonna stack the card for a big City like Chicago.
Huges vs Serra should be on this card IMO.
Gotta have a title fight too.
Forrest's first title defence? But with Chuck/Evans and Silva/Machida and Rampage most likely not stepping in a ring, I wonder if it's even possible.
Henderson vs Franklin“? That'd be huge in the mid-west.
Anderson Silva vs Okami is a good possibility
Maybe they'll rush Shogun's return for this card?

    any other ideas?

Hopefully this means UFC 89 in the UK will be free on Spike TV [IMG]

damn!! I hope this fight still happens and is just being moved!

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Report: Sanchez vs. Alves not happening at UFC 89

A planned welterweight bout between Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez is no longer expected to take place at UFC 89 on Oct. 18 in Birmingham, England, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.

The Sanchez vs. Alves match has never been officially announced by the UFC but had been reported as being set by several major MMA media outlets. No reason for the change has been given.

According to Meltzer, the recently announced light heavyweight bout at UFC 89 between Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva was chosen as the replacement for the proposed Alves vs. Sanchez matchup.

It is also unknown whether the matchup has been canceled entirely, or if there are plans to move the bout to another card, such as UFC 90 in Chicago on Oct. 25.</div>
