Mirko Cro Cop has pulled out of his scheduled bout with Mark Hunt (who replaced JLB, who decided to fight Semmy Schilt instead) to have elbow surgery.

Hunt's opponent, or if he is still competing, is unknown.

Man Dream is having a hard go of it aren't they?

I hope Gomi doesn't get injured in his semi-final fight... that would really sink them.

Just added the WEC36 card for September 10th. Got 3 sick fights on it as well as the debut of highly touted Jake Rosholt whom many MMA pundits say is a rising star.

Here's the info on the most recently added big fight.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Leonard Garcia agrees to Sept. 10 bout with Jens Pulver

After a recent title loss to WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber, Jens Pulver (22-9-1) will look to reclaim top-contender status when he meets Leonard Garcia (11-3) Sept. 10 at WEC 36.

Garcia today told MMAjunkie.com that he's agreed to the bout, which could be finalized as early as this week.

The event, which features a title fight between Faber and Mike Brown, as well as a WEC middleweight title fight between champ Paulo Filho and Chael Sonnen, airs live on VERSUS.

Pulver, a former UFC champion who made his WEC debut in late 2007, suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Faber in June. The event, which drew record ratings, was arguably the biggest and most successful show in WEC history. Although Pulver remains one of the WEC's biggest names, he's lost three of his past four fights, which included recent UFC losses to B.J. Penn and Joe Lauzon.

During a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com, Pulver said he underwent minor elbow surgery after the event. He predicted an October return and said he wanted to fight former Shooto star Alexandre Franca Nogueira. Nogueira, though, recently tested positive for steroids following a recent loss to Jose Aldo and faces up to a year's suspension.

Instead, he'll get Garcia, who will fight for the first time since a February TKO victory over Hiroyuki Takaya. Soon after the win, though, the former UFC fighter was arrested for alleged involvement in a Texas-based drug ring. Garcia, who continually maintained that he was simply the victim of guilt by association, was recently cleared of all pending federal charges.

In a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com, he said he hung around with the wrong person three years ago and suffered the consequences. However, he's vowed to choose his friends much more carefully.

"You can't change things in your past," said Garcia. "But looking back, I knew what [that friend] was doing, and I shouldn't have been around him. But you get the dog, you get the fleas. ... Had I known I could be in this much trouble for hanging around with him, I would have never done it. Now if I see him, I'll definitely turn the other way."</div>

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>No Horodecki: Gomi to fight Pang at "Sengoku 4"
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Jul 24, 2008 at 7:16 pm ET
Longtime PRIDE champion and highly ranked lightweight Takanori Gomi (28-3) will fight reigning DEEP lightweight champion Sung Hwan Pang (5-1) at next month's Sengoku 4 event.

The Japanese-based World Victory Road today released the Aug. 24 fight card, which includes the opening round of a lightweight grand prix and a former star of the all-but-dead International Fight League.

The event takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

The Gomi-Hwan booking will likely come as a suprise to many fans; IFL star and MMA prodigy Chris Horodecki (13-1) had long been reported as Gomi's likely opponent.

However, a source close to the fighter tells MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Horodecki is currently in negotiations with, among other organizations, the up-and-coming American Fight League, an organization that garnered recent headlines with the signings of former WWE star Bobby Lashley, top female fighter Tara LaRosa (with a contract worth more than $500,000) and many former UFC fighters.

AFL officials weren't immediately available for comment.

However, Gomi -- usually ranked as the best or second-best lightweight in the world (with B.J. Penn) -- will instead meet Pang, who's fought exclusively in DEEP since his July 2007 debut. In just 12 months of professional competition, he's 5-1 with a current five-fight win streak. In May he scored a first-round knockout of Kazunori Yokota for the DEEP lightweight title.

Yokota, meanwhile, will be one of eight fighters taking part in WVR's 2008 lightweight grand prix that same night. Other participants include Cage Force lightweight champ Mizuto Hirota and IFL lightweight title-holder Ryan Schultz.

    The night's full card includes:

    REGULAR BOUTS

Takanori Gomi vs Sung Hwan Pang
    Makoto Takimoto vs Frank Trigg
    Peter Graham vs Moise Rimbon
    LIGHTWEIGHT GRAND PRIX, FIRST ROUND

    Clay French vs. Satoru Kitaoka
    Rodrigo Damm vs. Eiji Mitsuoka
    Bojan Kosednar vs. Kazunori Yokota
    Mizuto Hirota vs. Ryan Schultz</div>

with Fedor's hand too injured to fight, here's the next best possibility IMO.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Affliction website: Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett to headline Oct. 11 event

Affliction Day of ReckoningAffliction Entertainment's next event, dubbed "Day of Reckoning," will take place Oct. 4 and feature a main event between Andrei Arlovski (13-5) and Josh Barnett (23-5), according to afflictionclothing.com.

Barnett replaces top-ranked heavyweight and WAMMA title-holder Fedor Emelianenko (28-1), who was scratched from the pay-per-view event due to a hand injury.

MMAjunkie.com couldn't immediately reach Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio for confirmation, and messages left with Emelianenko's management weren't returned.

As previously announced, the event will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas.

After Affliction's July 19 "Banned" debut at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., Atencio was originally mum on the following event's headline bout. However, Emelianenko and Arlovski were reportedly set to meet at the October event. But, as MMAjunkie.com previously reported, Emelianenko was issued a 180-day medical suspension due to a hand injury. He can be cleared early by a doctor -- but only if the injury isn't serious.

Emelianenko defeated former UFC champion Tim Sylvia in just 36 seconds at "Banned." Likewise, Andrei Arlovski defeated Ben Rothwell via knockout. The two clear-cut fan favorites were then expected to headline the second show for what would likely be Affliction's most marketable bout to date.

Instead, Barnett, who defeated and avenged a previous loss to Pedro Rizzo at "Banned," will get the fight instead.

No other bouts have been confirmed for the event, though a number of fighters -- including Sylvia, Rizzo, Aleksander Emelianenko and others -- have publicly stated that they plan to be a part of Affliction's second event.</div>

Barnett vs. Arlovski is a good fight with the winner facing Fedor.

Kind of hard to believe Barnett and Fedor were in PRIDE for so long and never fought.

I just thought that since Barnett wouldn't take a pay cut, I guess they'll put him in the main event and make the most of their money.

a few more rumored fights for Affliction's next card

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>White vs. Nelson, Nogueira vs. Matyushenko expected at Affliction II

Vladimir MatyushenkoNoted Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner and Xtreme Couture trainer Jay White (2-5) and reigning IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson (12-3) will likely meet at "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" in October.

Additionally, "Affliction: Banned" winner Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (14-3) and reigning IFL light heavyweight champion Vladimir Matyushenko (21-3) are expected to rematch at the upcoming show.

Sources close to the event tell MMAjunkie.com the bouts are being discussed and could be announced as early as this week.

A press conference for Affliction's Oct. 11 sophomore event takes place on Wednesday and includes both Nelson and Matyushenko.

The expected signings of White and Nelson further bolster Affliction's stacked heavyweight division, which already features half of the world's top-10 fighters.

White's record can be deceiving. Despite five losses in his eight pro fights, the well-respected ground specialist has lost to three UFC vets (Christian Wellisch, Jake O'Brien and twice to Jeff Monson) and a fighter with a 9-2 record (Mark Burch). He's spent the majority of his time competing in -- and winning -- many notable BJJ tournaments, including Grapper's Quest, and the North American Grappling Association and Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

Nelson, meanwhile, is a BodogFIGHT and IFL veteran who's won five in a row and seven of his past eight fights. "Big Country" was 6-1 in the IFL with his only loss coming to notable Ben Rothwell. He won the title with a victory over Antonio Jaoude in December and made two successful title defenses.

In a light-heavyweight bout, Nogueira, a longtime PRIDE fighter, will look to build off July's "Affliction: Banned" TKO victory over Edwin Dewees when he meets Matyushenko, a former UFC fighter currently riding an eight-fight winning streak. The IFL's reigning -- and perhaps last -- light-heavyweight title-holder will fight for the first time since April.

The two fighters first met in August 2002 at a Universal Fighting-Arts Organization (UFO) event, where Matyushenko picked up a unaninous-decision victory.</div>

I am surprised that the UFC didn't pick up Nelson's contract from the IFL as their HW division needs a HUGE boost IMO.

A few updates for the Affliction card... this one

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Ben Rothwell vs. "Mighty Mo" match-up considered for next Affliction show

A surefire heavyweight slugfest is in the works for Affliction's second show in October.

Discussions are under way to pair Ben Rothwell against K-1 veteran Siala "Mighty Mo" Siliga at "Affliction: Day of Reckoning" on Oct. 11, a source with knowledge of the negotiations tells MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Standing in the way of the bout is approval from K-1 for Siliga to fight outside of his current contract with the organization. Siliga (3-0 in MMA) won his quarterfinal match in the K-1 2008 Grand Prix this past Saturday in Hawaii, but he couldn't continue in the tournament due to a groin injury. He could still be invited to the GP final next month as a wild-card entry, which would take him out of the running to face Rothwell in October.

Siliga's most recent MMA bout produced a technical knockout of journeyman Ruben Villareal at the K-1 HERO'S Dynamite!! event in Los Angeles in June of 2007. A match-up with Rothwell would be the kickboxer's toughest test in his brief MMA career.

Rothwell (29-6) suffered his first defeat in 14 fights after being knocked out by Andrei Arlovski at Affliction's first show on July 19 in Anaheim, Calif. "Big Ben" was suspended for 60 days following the loss but is expected to be ready for the October event at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Arlovski will headline Affliction's second event against Josh Barnett, with the winner slated to get the next crack at Fedor Emelianenko.</div>

Might Mo is a hard hitting veteran of K-1 and can not only take a hart shot, but give them out as well. IMO Ben Rothwell is in trouble in this fight.
Too bad he'll most likely be fighting on K-1's Grand Prix card.

    a few more tidbits.

    Affliction has officially announced;

Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
    Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort
    Paul Buentello vs Roy Nelson
    Jason High vs. Mike Pyle

Interesting that Nelson will now face Buentello instead of the rumored fight with Jay White who sported a losing record. Buentello is a tough banger and will be a good way to show just how good Roy Nelson is or isn't.

Babalu has taken a fight a few weeks prior to Affliction 2 so the chances of him fighting the yet-unsigned Tito Ortiz seem less likely now.

looks like this rumor is dead before it had a chance to take off

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Ben Rothwell confirmed today that he will face Pedro Rizzo on the next Affliction show in Las Vegas on October 11. The bout has been officially signed, Rothwell told CagePotato.com, though it was agreed to on separate terms from his original contract, which means he will be taking a pay cut for this fight but still has two more fights at the previous rate on his existing contract with Affliction.

“[Agent] Monte [Cox] turned down their original offer for this fight, so that’s why he said none of his guys would be fighting on the show. Then they came back with another offer that was better, so we agreed to it,” Rothwell said.

Fighting a legend of the sport like Rizzo is something Rothwell says he’s ambivalent about, however.

“With Pedro, I not only respect his abilities, I watched him as a kid just getting into this sport. He’s one of the most down-to-earth, nicest guys in this sport, so on that level I don’t really want to fight him. But the fighter in me is amped for this. I’m going to to go out there and do what I didn’t do against Andrei Arlovski.”

Rothwell said that he spoke with Rizzo at their first Affliction show and they both sensed that they may face each other next.

“I said I was going to ask for Buentello,” said Rothwell. “Then he said he was going to ask for Buentello. And Tim [Sylvia] also asked for Buentello.”

Rothwell criticized a report to the effect that he might face K-1 kickboxer “Mighty Mo” Siliga as completely false, adding that Siliga hadn’t ever been mentioned as a potential opponent.</div>

and LOL at Timmy, Pedro and Ben all wanting to fight Paul Buentello.. wonder if they think he'd be an easy win?
