<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Speaking to the Associated Press, hospital spokesperson Johan Kortenray said, "The surgery went well and he is expected to go home tomorrow."

Ronaldo had been playing through the pain barrier for the final two months of the Premier League season, as well as Euro 2008.

As such he traveled to the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam on Sunday night to speak to doctor Niek van Dijk.

After consultation with the surgeon he went under the knife on Monday morning, and although Kortenray would not give further details of the treatment it is thought that the procedure went as well as could have been hoped.

Manchester United are likely to issue a statement of their own in the coming days with regards to Ronaldo's return to training.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will listen with interest to any coming news as they continue to chase the man who scored 42 competitive goals last season.</div>
