He's being cautious, which is sensible. It's best to take precautions early in the season, when the rest of the team is more or less healthy. The Rockets don't benefit if he decides to play hurt, and it only makes things worse.

^^^yes he does.....under the same name, lol

It's good that he's taking precaution, but i'm hoping this isn't a reoccuring story throughout the year.............

As long as he's relatively healthy for the remaining 78 games or so I'm good with that. Actually if T-mac plays at least 65-70 games, everything will be good.

I had a feeling it was the same cat, "durvasa" aint exactly a common screen name lol

Anyways, I got a feeling T-Mac is gonna play at least 70 games this season, now that we got Artest, and now that Scola is getting more acquainted with the leagues style of play, we should be able to collect the wins we're supposed to if T-Mac misses a few games here and there.

On another note, now that Yao's almost 100% recovered from his surgery we can expect him to put up atleast 23-10 a night (a few years back Yao was dropping around 25 points a night).

This is the year we finally go deep in the post season. Yao Ming, T-Mac, Scola, Artest, SF3 (hopefully) and the rest of the boys know this is probably the best team on paper the franchise ever had....Ya'll can quote me, 2008...2nd Round Virgins NO MORE!!!!

Who cares? The Artest and Yao combination in pre-season is looking really good. Throw a healthy Battier in the starting lineup and we still have a team that's better than 20 of the other teams in the league.

Then when TMac comes back we'll be the best team in the NBA. It's optimism time out here in Rocket country. :D

Well it's hardly Rocket country here but I've been reading a lot of CF lately. It's rubbing off. And the irrational optimism is gone here now that Rock4life is gone. :)

    I don't have a problem irrational optimism -- it's the irrational pessimism that's annoying.

And I'd like Rock4life to return here and post. The more opinions, the better.

Well with the way this team looks on paper at least it's hard to find faults. The really nit-picky ones would point to injuries and the lack of a proven backup point guard, but AB has looked really good in preseason and having a weak backup point guard is hardly a fatal weakness in the playoffs, unless Rafer gets injured again. With the 7 and 8 man rotations having Barry or TMac running the offense for 15 minutes in a playoff game won't drag us down that much, at least.

The injury problem I'm sure is unavoidable, but as long as the timing's good and we get the main cast healthy in time for the playoffs, we'll survive.

    Any predictions durvasa?

I'd guess 56 or 57 wins in the regular season. And I agree, injuries and PG are the big concerns. Also, after Yao we're fairly small in the front court. It's unclear how effective Mutombo would be if we resign him, and if we don't get him we should probably look to bolster the size up front.

The size issue I guess I'm not overly concerned about. Landry and Dorsey both play bigger than they are, and you should know better than anyone that Chuck Hayes would be a more than serviceable backup center. He's undersized but his rebounding and defense are there. Granted, we'll have problems against Shaq or Duncan without Yao, but having Artest at SF more than makes up for it, as he has a size and strength advantage over most 3's out there.

I'd much rather see Chuck and Dorsey get backup center minutes over a tall, 7-foot stiff like Loren Woods or Justin Williams.

We know Mutombo can still play. I'd like to see more of that finger-waggin'. :tsktsk:

What do you guys say are our chances of resigning him?

Well we'll re-sign Mutombo for sure, it's just a matter of when. He's already said he'll only play for the Rockets and he could be an addition in February or March as we head toward the playoffs. It'll probably be better for him to rest for the first half of the year, and better for us too to develop Dorsey and let Landry get used to being the backup center.
