Straight up, forget about contract issues.

Would you do it? Wolves fans have considered it already.

Hmmm ... yeah probably. I like Rudy's potential, but I think Flynn is going to end up being a pretty decent guard, even though he's a little undersized.

Regardless it's all pretty much a moot point, KP sent a loud and clear signal last night that his only real impact targets are almost certainly quality veteran players that are going to step in day one and help push this team to championship level -- I don't see any rookies in this draft that are capable of providing that.

    Since this is purely hypothetical...

I'd think real hard about this one. I'm a big Flynn fan. But I can't see KP dealing Fernandez.

I would have thought that you'd be against it.

I'm not a fan of this, especially since this leaves us with 3 points and another rookie who needs minutes.

I agree. Flynn is their guy.

Rubio and his obvious dislike of cold climate will be the one to go.

While I can't see it ever happening, it is an interesting hypothetical.

Do you believe that Rudy will be unwilling to stay in Portland long term in the role of super-sub? If the answer is "yes", then you make the deal. Otherwise, it is a tough call.

I would do it. Mainly because Rudy is a SG behind Brandon, and that will always be an issue trying to get Rudy enough minutes. I like Flynn a lot too though. I would do it, but I doubt KP would.

Well presumably we wouldn't have taken Mills if this trade had been done ... In any case I see it mostly as a hypothetical trade scenario where talent is exchanged for talent -- in that respect I think both Flynn and Rudy are similar in talent level.

EDIT: I think I misread what you wrote B-Roy; you wouldn't like the Blazers carrying 3 point guards? The team is almost certainly going to carry 3 ones just for reasons of depth and injury insurance. I like Bayless, but I have zero problem with backups competing for minutes -- may the best man win in my opinion.

From what TrueHoop says, the impression round the league is that Flynn and not the weather is the main reason Rubio is balking at Minny, so they very well might offer this trade. But we shouldn't take it. Flynn is still a rookie PG (or, apparently, a SG, if David Kahn is to be believed).
Blake for Flynn, yes (but just to get rid of Blake).
    Rubio for Rudy, yes.
Bayless for Flynn, yes. That makes more sense for us and it even makes sense for Minny, as Bayless really is a SG, but he could be put on either PGs or SGs depending on who Rubio can least guard.

I voted no, but not because I am against trading Rudy. I think at some point sooner than later we will need to address trading Rudy because he won't be happy off the bench for ever.

That being said, I wouldn't trade him for a rookie.

I do like Flynn but I wouldn't even trade Bayless for him and for sure wouldn't trade Rudy for Flynn.

The three-guard lineup with Roy, Fernandez, and Blake, was sometimes our most effective set last season. Putting Roy at PG and Fernandez alongside is another option.

Overall, I think if the Blazers are perennial contenders starting next season, and Fernandez can be the type of sixth man that Ginobili has been for the Spurs, I think he'd be happy.

The Blazers don't need a young PG. They could use an upgrade over Blake, perhaps, but I'm not sure Flynn is going to be substantially better than Bayless.

Of course it came from Minny. If we sent Rudy there, they would have a lobbyist to get Rubio. I've seen what a Ricky/Rudy backcourt can do and I don't wish to face it four times a year.

And as for getting a small PG in the deal, no thanks.

I don't worry about what I can't control. Manu Ginobili came off the bench, and so have many other great players. If you're winning, what's the problem? It's not like PA isn't going to pay him. In a three guard rotation, he can get 30-35 minutes.

I haven't seen enough Flynn to consider it and be comfortable with any decision. I have seen Rudy, and am happy with that.

Flynn hasn't played a minute in the NBA and proven anything yet. I wouldn't take that chance.

No. Been real busy. I'm off for about the next 6 weeks though. I think I'll get her one soon.
