    Game one starters:

    C.C. Sabathia vs. Cliff Lee

    Cliff Lee
Year W L G IP BB SO SV ERA
    2009 Season 14 13 34 231.2 43 181 0 3.22

Has a nice, four-pitch arsenal featuring low-90s heat, nasty slider, curve and change. Has a fluid, sometimes sneaky delivery.

The southpaw has his struggles against right-handed hitters, who too often pound his stuff out of the park.

He hit very poorly against the Dodgers batting .211 with one home run and four RBI in 18 at bats. He’s a home run threat even at the age of 37 every time he steps up to the plate.

Cliff Lee dominated the Dodgers pitching eight innings of three hit shut out ball while striking out 10 for the win.

    C.C. Sabathia
Year W L G IP BB SO SV ERA
    2009 Season 19 8 34 230.0 67 197 0 3.37

What makes Sabathia so devastating, aside from the intimidation factor, is his ability to change speeds effectively after introducing a fastball that reaches the high 90s. He can work himself out of jams.

His biggest flaw to date is a lack of endurance, fading in the later innings (though he has improved). Also, he occasionally battles control problems.

Has been dominant in the post season. Started two games against the Angels and won both. He went 2-0 against the Angels with a 1.13 ERA pitching 16 total innings while striking out 12.

Advantage: Even. These are the two best teams with the best pitchers in baseball. They didn’t get to the World Series without great starting pitching.
