Go ahead and say we sucked getting into the paint last season, but this season we are third in the league for scoring in the paint, only behind Orlando and Atlanta. http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fantasy/nba/teamstats/10/4/diffeff
That is amazingly coincidental to the Blazers 4th quarter problems lately. See they go into paint for 2 to 3 quarters, and then they forget about it. This is what I have been talking about with Lamarcus. We will go into half time and he will have 14 to 16 points, which pretty much indicates a team has not been able to stop him at any time. Our guards will be attacking the paint. Then we come out in the 4th quarter, and start trying to milk the clock, and wind every posessions down to 6 seconds or less before a forced perimeter shot comes to fruition. Guys start passing up open shots, and open lanes to the hoop, in order to milk the clock more. Just do what got you through the first half, and the problems go away. I swear Nate McMillan couldn't ride a horse if you duck taped him to it. We have the horses. Learn to ride em.
I agree. Nate is so cautious and will try his best to protect the lead his team got till the 4th. Just keep smashing them into the ground and they will just toss their bench in and wave the white flag. P.S. First time I saw this site. It was hard trying to find Points in the paint stats, since 82.games is a bit slow.
What's even more staggering is you know Barkely talking shit about us being a "jump shooting team"? Well last year we were 7th in points in the paint.
We are 16th for points in the paint this year, using your very own link. What you showed is that we are 3rd in points in the paint differential, thanks to our stout interior defense. We are 2nd best in the league in opponent points in the paint. I do not think you are reading the data correctly.
Part of that might be the stigma of reverting to a jump shooting team when things break down. A lot of what folks take away from the game is what they remember the most. If the team reverts to a jump shooting team, and blows a big lead, what do they remember?
Ahhhhh, thanks for the insight. I'm not too good at reading these things. So we are 16th? How did you get that?
I ordered by points, the way your original link opened, it was sorted by point in the paint efficiency differential.
Wow i just did that and we scored only .3 more points in the paint than last season. No shit really?!?!?!
Not a big surprise, imho. Roy scored a lot more, last year, close to the basket. He is much more of a jump-shooter this year.
You're exactly right. In the last 5 minutes of the game, the plan changes. It's a 1 on 5 game with Brandon Roy at the top of the key just waiting, waiting, waiting. It's annoying. If we continue to go to Oden and Aldridge, things will only be easier on us. I wish Nate McMillan could understand that.
So according to this link, Portland is: #1 in points allowed, #2 in rebounds allowed, #1 in assists allowed, #10 in steals allowed, #4 in blocks allowed, #29 in creating turn overs, #1 in defensive rebounds allowed, #12 in offensive rebounds allowed, #7 in FGM and attempted, #1 in opponent's FG %, #4 in opponent's 3 point %, #1 in efficiency, and #2 in deff. Is that right?
