Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) There is a rumour floating around that Thiago Silva has an ankle injury but the UFC is so desperate to keep this card afloat they have made it worth his while to fight through it.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) Fighters originally scheduled to compete who are injured or otherwise unable to participate: Anderson Silva (injured) Vitor Belfort (postponed) Brock Lesnar (injured) Shane Carwin (injured) Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (injured) Cain Velasquez (postponed) Gabriel Gonzaga (injured) Carlos Condit (injured) Tyson Griffin (injured) Rory Markham (injured) Unreal.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) I'm really not that big into watching the UFC, I really don't know much about these guys but, its always fun to watch.... What does undercard mean? The next best thing to the main event?
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) It is a boxing term. There is the main event, obviously you know what that is. Then there is often a co-main event or a feature, which is the second most promoted fight. Following that there is the televised undercard, which are fights which are shown on the TV/PPV broadcast. Sometimes there is a pre-PPV show that the UFC puts on SpikeTV. They will show one hour of live footage from the event, usually amounting to two live fights plus filler, as a teaser to get you to keep watching by buying the following PPV. Then there are preliminary (dark) matches which are not always shown during the PPV. They are used as filler, time permitting, or shown exclusively on UFC.com for a fee (usually $2.50).
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) There's a main card (planned televised fights) and the undercard (non-televised, ticket buying fans who attend live see all of these fights) Like speeds said, the under card fights are used as filler on the PPV's if some fights end early. Lately Spike TV has been showing 2 of the undercard fights live and for free to bulid an appetite for fans to order the PPV.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) ^ The under card is shown in full, the preliminary fights may-not-be-broadcast.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) Okay, yeah I've heard of some of the terms but every MMA torney I went to was different so. My brother fights so Im starting to get interested.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) Sean Sherk is injured and won't fight at UFC 108. This is some gypsy, voodoo, ancient Indian burial ground shit going on here...
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) Duane "Bang" Ludwig has jumped in to fight Miller in place of Sherk.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) This card would be weak even for a free Spike TV one. Not really the UFC's fault though - when your jinxed your jinxed.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) Many of the fighters that should be competing on this card but aren't will be signing autographs at the MGM Grand Garden Arena concourse on New Year's Day from 1:00PM PST (4:00PM EST). Attending will be Minotauro Nogueira, Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Wanderlei Silva. Dunno if you could pick a better four guys to get autographs from than that. Wandy will do the Fight Club Q&A an hour later.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) I for sure won't be ordering this. I don't expect buys to be very high on this one.
Re: UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva (Jan. 2nd) I stilll like the Main event, Dustin Hazlett vs Paul Daley and Gilbert Yvel vs Dos Santos fights. I'm also interested in seeing Kampmann and Jim Miller fight although they should both win easily. not a bad card IMO, there should still be some good fights even if there isn't the star power there
