The last one was in 1700 and the cycle is thought to be approximately 300 to 350 years. With geologic events, this means it could happen tomorrow or not in our lifetime.

Ask experts in the field of emergency management and they'll tell you we are on borrowed time. :dunno:

They're trained to think of the consequences of an earthquake. I don't know how much they can say about predicting when one will occur.

Just keep an eye on this site - http://portland.craigslist.org/pet/

If you notice a sudden increase in lost pet postings you know the big one is just hours away.

Or does it mean it's the 4th of July?

I can't remember, pets running off is suppose to mean something bad.

Trust me, EM is comprised of people who are trained in a variety of fields. Some in geology, others in sociology or psychology, and then there's your poli sci majors. They don't fall into one stereotype.

That article makes me feel better. Anyone who is willing to be THAT specific about what WILL happen is either a prophet or grasping at straws.

And, while I'm sure there are a lot of smart people of all stripes in EM, simple math from even within that knee-jerk column doesn't seem to indicate it's "borrowed time".

Hopefully people will be arguing about this for another century. :)

I think earthquakes are a giant liberal conspiracy to distract us from their evil global warming agenda.

People start doubting global warming and BAM! Earthquakes happen in Haiti and Chile.

    Coincidence? I think not.
