Drafts replaced former Storm and Orlando quarterback Shane Stafford, who sustained a broken left foot in the first game of the season at Tulsa. Tampa defensive lineman Jermaine Smith recovered a Henderson fumble of an apparent TD pass from Drafts with 4:03 left in the third quarter. Dietz then drove the Storm from his own 5 yard line, connecting again with Timmons for 14 yards on the first play of the fourth period, giving Tampa a 40-28 margin. Drafts, a rookie who played last season at the lower-level af2, staked Dallas to a 14-7 first-quarter lead was Dietz closed the second period with two unanswered touchdown passes to Timmons for 16 and eight yards to give the Storm a 27-21 halftime lead. The second came after a tremendous defensive stand by the Storm that held Dallas on the Tampa one yard line.
