Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel scored his third goal in two games, as Eastern Conference-leading New York won its second-straight game with a 2-1 win over MLS expansion side, the Philadelphia Union, in the first-ever match between the regional rivals on Saturday afternoon. New York forward Salou Ibrahim also tallied his first career MLS goal for the hosts, who now have 12 points on the season with a 4-1-0 record.

The Red Bulls threatened the Philadelphia goal seven minutes in, as midfielder Dane Richards found Ibrahim at the top of the box and the forward lashed a shot that went just over the crossbar. Four minutes later, Union forward Sebastien Le Toux had an open look in the box and blasted it wide right.

Red Bulls midfielder Brian Nielsen, who made his MLS debut and started after enjoying his first training session with the squad Friday, tried to test goalkeeper Chris Seitz from long range, but the goalkeeper went down to save it. Later, Angel got on the end of a Joel Lindpere corner kick and the Union was able to clear it from danger.

Angel had the Red Bulls' chance of the first half five minutes from halftime. Lindpere lofted a ball into the path of Angel, who only had Seitz to beat. The Colombian's shot was on target, but well smothered by Seitz.

New York took the lead in the 50th minute. Red Bulls defender Jeremy Hall had time on the ball on the right wing and floated a cross into the box. Ibrahim rose above his defender and headed it past Seitz.

The visitors leveled the score just nine minutes later. Alejandro Moreno made a darting run into the box and found a streaking Le Toux at the back post. The forward one-timed it in the net to tie the game up.

The match turned back in the Red Bulls' favor in the 67th minute, as Angel put the Red Bulls up for the second time of the afternoon. New York defender Roy Miller laced a cross into the box. Philadelphia's Michael Orozco leapt up for it and the ball hit his left arm, as referee Kevin Stott pointed to the penalty spot. Angel stepped up and put it inside the left post past a diving Seitz.

Philadelphia pressed for an equalizer with seven minutes left in the match, as substitute Jack McInerney was free on the left post and headed a Fred delivery wide. Angel attempted to put the game out of reach soon after, but could not keep his shot down. Seitz was called upon to make a save on Sinisa Ubiparipovic in second half stoppage time.

New York again faces the Union on Tuesday, April 27 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Preliminary Round match at Red Bull Arena at 8:00 PM. The Red Bulls then hit the road for two-straight, first taking on D.C. United on Saturday, May 1 with kickoff set for 4:00 PM ET at RFK Stadium (TV: MSG, TeleFutura; Radio: WADO 1280 AM).
