Kentucky coach John Calipari is intrigued with the Chicago Bulls’ coaching job and would be willing to listen to a pitch from management, NBA and NCAA sources told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday. Sources say the combination of roster talent, tradition and market make Chicago one of the few NBA jobs that could pry Calipari out of Kentucky. The Bulls have been hesitant to pay the $4 million-$5 million annual packages it would take to lure high-profile coaches like Calipari. Calipari could be an intriguing candidate on several levels for the Bulls. He coached Bulls star point guard, Derrick Rose(notes), at the University of Memphis, and his strong ties with the powerful agency, CAA, could give the organization leverage in free agency this summer. Calipari is close with Cleveland’s LeBron James, and shares representation with two of the Bulls’ top free-agent targets – Miami’s Dwyane Wade and Toronto’s Chris Bosh. Sources say Calipari “hasn’t connected” with Kentucky’s athletic administration in his first year on the job, and that could contribute to his willingness to rekindle a long-standing goal of realizing NBA success. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AkmalP28fwldWCLos7PQ0ny8vLYF?slug=aw-caliparibulls050410
I just don't see this happening but you never know. The Big Blue Nation would be devastated... How could you replace Cal? He posted on his Facebook today that he is very happy at UK and that he's not going anywhere. Dunno. We'll see.
Noooooo thank you. This guy is one of the sketchiest coaches you could ever and I don't want someone like him on this team.
Seriously, the guys put 3 teams in probation, and though he's great at manipulating the system, he's someone I dont want on the Bulls organization. We have enough douchebags in management
Yeah, I posted in the college thread on this... I don't get it. Is he really angling for a payday, or is UK just really nervous. In any case, it seems sketchy that his name is even out there
On the Bluegrass state front, however, I've mentioned Rick Pitino before. I'd hate him as a GM, but he's a very good coach, and I wonder if he isn't looking for an out after not exactly covering himself in glory the last few years at UofL
http://mobile.newsday.com/inf/infom...min&feed:c=sports&feed:i=1.1896352&nopaging=1 I tell you what this was no coincident that Calipari started sending out feelers the very day VDN was let go! BB, yes he said he is happy at KY, but remember last summer? He said the same thing about Memphis and five days later he was signed as coach in KY. If he can bring in lebron? You gotta take him.
The more names that are floated, the more it seems to me like it's time to extend Lawrence Frank a reasonable three year offer and call it a day.
It is what it is. He had a good run in NJ. The other candidates who we actually have a chance at landing given what Reinsdorf is going to offer do not have half the experience or tactical knowledge. I wouldn't be surprised if Frank is out of the Bull's league, to be honest.
Ouch, SST, you've gotten even more jaded than me. I actually think the Reinsdorf is not purely cheap, and is mindful of reputation, such that he will spend this summer because it'd lead to a big fan drop off if he doesnt
Thanks for the kind words. I haven't been able to direct as much time as I would like to the Bulls this past season, but I still love watching them. It's nice to see you posting on SportTwo.
