"With a two-day break between the fourth and fifth games of the Eastern Conference semifinals, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette told his players to stay home and rest Saturday and to return today to the Skate Zone in Voorhees refreshed.

He said the bumps and bruises that were inflicted during Friday night's emotional overtime victory over the Boston Bruins ache a whole lot less for the winning team.

"When you wake up the next day, it's tougher, I think, if you lost in overtime," Laviolette said during a conference call with reporters Saturday.

Dan Carcillo and Simon Gagne woke up Saturday feeling the pain of Friday night's victory. Carcillo injured his knee in the second period and did not take a shift in the third period or in overtime. Gagne, playing his first game since breaking his right foot 17 days earlier, took just one shift in the overtime and scored the game-winning goal.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren did not give anSaturday on Carcillo's status.

For the Flyers' coaches, an extra day off is simply a chance for more preparation. The Flyers need a win Monday to keep their season alive.

"When you come to the rink, do some work, have some meetings, get through the next day, whether you won the last game or lost the last game, it's usually gone, you're back to hockey. I don't think the extra day really favors anybody," Laviolette said."
