    The Indianapolis 500's new qualifying format drew only one complaint Saturday. Helio Castroneves ended the drama too quickly.

    This era's king of Indianapolis Motor Speedway posted such a big number to open the inaugural pole shootout -- 227.970 mph -- that no one could approach it.

    That was his plan.

    "I wanted to deflate them, make them in the panic mode," he said. "I wanted to do everything to make them (say,) 'Let's give up and go home.' "
