New Jersey-born striker Giuseppe Rossi gave up his chance to play for the U.S. in favor of making the Italy squad, and looked to be a lock to make the team this summer. In a surprising move, Marcelo Lippi left the Villarreal striker off his final 23-player roster in favor of Fabio Quagliarella http://www.potomacsoccerwire.com/news/460/11431
I hate posts like this, but here it goes. This. Rossi left the country when he was 10 and I don't think ever really considered playing for the US over Italy. He represented Italy at all youth levels and they were the logical choice for the senior side. The goal celebration at the Confed Cup was a bit more than I would have liked to see from a guy who started his life in the US, but lets get over it. Why aren't we all up in arms about Brede Hangeland or Neven Subotic? Subotic represented the US at youth levels and Brede was born in Texas.
if he helps Serbia beat us and then celebrates in our faces then we will hate him too. In the meantime F Rossi and the horse he rode in on.
