"So many reasons for Mavs fans to feel good about their team at the All-Star break ...

And yet two big reasons that it feels like nothing will ever change. They're called the Lakers and the Spurs.

But let's start with the feel -good aspects of this season, which are considerable. When last season ended in Game 6 at San Antonio , the Mavericks got 74 of their 87 points that night from Dirk Nowitzki, Caron Butler and Rodrigue Be aubois.

You had to figure that whatever improvement might come in 2010-11 would be based on Nowitzki's continued stay among the game's elite, Butler's acclimation in his first full season as a Maverick and Beaubois' rapid development as a diamond in the rough.

So here we are with Dallas second best in the West, a rather remarkable 40-16 record that has the team on pace for 58 wins {ellipsis} and those three players have missed a combined 90 out of 168 games?"
