The Philadelphia Wings (4 -5 ) couldn't overcome the depth of their first place foe, as they fell 16-13 to the Toronto Rock (8-3) in National Lacrosse League action Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center.

The Wings spotted the Rock five quick goals to open the game before breaking through with a goal of their own from Alex Turner at the 10 minute mark of the first quarter. The Wings were able to keep the momentum for the remainder of the opening period, scoring twice more to enter the first break down just 6-3.

The game's fast pace slowed a bit in the 2nd quarter, as the teams combined for just six goals in the period after scoring nine total in the first. The Wings momentum carried over into the early portion of the second quarter, as they cut the Rock advantage to just two at 6-4 with a diving goal by Brendan Mundorf that was confirmed after a lengthy video review.

The Wings' comeback proved to be a Sisyphean task however, as the uphill challenge of overcoming an early five-goal deficit to the Rock proved to be too much for the home squad. Philadelphia was able to get within three goals on several occasions in the second half, but Toronto repeatedly found a way to hold off the determined Wings.

Mundorf (4g, 5a) and Athan Iannucci (4g, 5a) shone for the Wings in defeat, leading the team with four goals each. Goalie Brandon Miller, who will represent the Wings along with Max Seibald in the NLL All-Star game on Sunday, kept the Wings in the game late, allowing Toronto just six second half goals.

The Wings return home next Saturday night, March 5 to take on the Calgary Roughnecks. Philadelphia will wear lime green jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game to benefit the HEADstrong Foundation. Great seats for all three remaining home games are available at WingsLax.com or by calling 1-800-298-4200.
