FC Dallas beat Euro powers to Colombia U-20 star

Addition of Castillo may lead to change in tactics for Hyndman

After months of scouting and traveling in search of the right striker, FC Dallas have found their guy in 18-year-old Fabián Castillo of Colombian side Deportivo Cali.

A member of the Colombian Under-20 national team, Castillo is judged by many to be one of the top prospects in his country. FC Dallas manager Schellas Hyndman has equally high hopes of what his new signing can accomplish in MLS.

I wouldn't expect competence in English to be a necessity for "top contributor" status, and you certainly prove that....but surely the ability to answer the question at hand is.

FC Dallas release Colombian vet Rodríguez, Marosevic

Striker failed to make impact this season; TFC pick up Marosevic

FC Dallas' Colombian contingent just got a little smaller.

On Thursday, the club announced that it released forward Milton Rodríguez.

Rodríguez, 35, had been hampered by injuries as of late. The Colombian forward, who joined FCD in May of last year, has played in just 13 games out of 22 this season for Dallas, getting the starting nod just five times. He scored just one goal and added an assist.

Last year, Rodríguez finished as the club’s third-highest scorer, tallying five times in 13 matches before an injury suffered in the first playoff game against Real Salt Lake kept him out for the remainder of the year.

The club also announced the release of Peri Marosevic, the 22-year-old forward who failed to carve himself a regular spot on the roster since he was drafted by FCD in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. The University of Michigan alum was immediately snapped up by Toronto FC, however, and became the 12th new player added to the Reds squad since opening day in Aron Winter's continuing shake-up.

    FCD re-sign Hernandez to three-year player-coach deal
Veteran to play at least one more season before moving to sideline

FC Dallas midfielder and captain Daniel Hernandez is leader on the field, and now he’ll be a leader on the sideline, too.

On Wednesday, the club announced they had signed Hernandez, 34, to a three-year contract as a player-coach. The new deal will see the 13-year veteran suit up as a player for at least one more season before joining head coach Schellas Hyndman on the bench.

FCD seek new stadium name after Pizza Hut pulls out
Frisco complex to be called FC Dallas Stadium until sponsor found

Pizza Hut Park is no more – at least in name.

FC Dallas confirmed on Wednesday that their home in Frisco, Texas, will no longer carry the only naming rights it has held since its official opening in August of 2005.

With the locally based fast-food conglomerate withdrawing, the club is seeking a new sponsor to carry the stadium name – as well as the 17 adjacent fields on the suburban complex. In the interim, it will officially be known as FC Dallas Stadium following the NCAA Division I football championship game between Sam Houston State and North Dakota State on Jan. 7.

FCD finally splash with Panamanian star, Colombian center back

FC Dallas’ quiet offseason just got officially loud. The club announced on Tuesday that is has agreed to terms with Panamanian striker Blas Pérez and Colombian defender Hernán Pertúz.

The duo marks the club’s first acquisitions of the offseason, and they’re big ones. The 30-year-old Pérez has been a prolific marksman over his 14-year career. The 6-foot-1 forward has bagged more than 150 goals on his various club stops, including in Panama, Colombia, Spain, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.

    Recap:
FCD stun Revs 1-0 on Ihemelu's late header

FRISCO, Texas – Ugo Ihemelu headed in a scintillating goal deep into stoppage time to give FC Dallas a last-gasp 1-0 win over the New England Revolution on Thursday night at FC Dallas Stadium.

Zach Loyd placed a perfect ball from a free kick onto the left side of the box in the 95th minute and the FC Dallas captain took advantage, rising to put the ball past Revs 'keeper Matt Reis for the winner.

Despite injuries and suspensions, FC Dallas were sparked by a return home and ended a two-game losing streak, halting New England’s two-game winning streak in the process.

The hosts dominated the game from start to finish but just couldn’t bury the ball in the back of the net as Reis made key save after save.

Dallas were energized by the return of forward Fabián Castillo after a three-game layoff. The Colombian speedster gave the Revolution fits all night long.

FCD find "hero partner" in sponsorship deal with AdvoCare

FRISCO, Texas – They say good things come to those who wait.

It has certainly been a long road for FC Dallas and president Doug Quinn in finding the perfect “hero partner” as their club’s jersey sponsor, but the organization feels it has found a winner in AdvoCare.

“Our ultimate goal was to identify the perfect partner. I think we’ve found them,” Quinn said in a Wednesday morning press conference. “What makes this even more perfect is that they are Texas-based. We can drive 15 minutes over to their corporate headquarters to meet with their executive team ... to talk about how we can make this partnership something extremely special.”

Quinn was brought to Dallas in the summer of 2010 with one of his main tasks being to find a jersey sponsor for an FC Dallas team that was one of the only MLS franchises to have never had a sponsor. It’s been a tricky road, but the signing of AdvoCare, almost two years to the day that Quinn was hired, is a vindicating moment for him and a major moment in the history of the franchise.

Danny Koevermans strikes again in Reds & Hoops 1-1 draw

FRISCO, Texas – Toronto FC continued their revival under head coach Paul Mariner, extending their unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas at a sold-out FC Dallas Stadium on Wednesday. The draw continued the home side’s slump, extending their franchise-record winless streak to 12 games, now tied for the fifth-longest in MLS history.

FCD jumped out to a dream start with their earliest goal of the season. In the fifth minute, a Daniel Hernandez corner was cleared to Jackson 35 yards from goal. The Brazilian sent a curling ball to Andrew Jacobson, whose smart header back across the box was in turn headed home by Zach Loyd for his second goal of the year.

De Guzman enjoying change of scenery with FC Dallas

FRISCO, Texas – Though a decision on his future looms at the end of the season, for the time being Julian de Guzman is relishing his change of scenery and change of playing style with FC Dallas.

“To be honest, being here reminds me of the times I played in Spain where they enjoy playing football and that’s what they look to do,” de Guzman told MLSsoccer.com. “It’s a pleasure being a part of this once again after three years in Toronto, which was a bit different. There was a point where they wanted to play like this, but the difference is the quality of players.”

The Canadian international was traded from Toronto FC to Dallas on July 13 and while a few weeks ago a return to Europe at the year’s end looked like a formality, it seems that the 31-year-old’s decision may have become a bit tougher as he integrates in to the FCD squad

    Closing The Gap
FCD leap closer to the playoff spots with a vital win in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, B.C. — FC Dallas are still in the hunt. Continuing their push for the playoffs, the Texan side scored two goals within 10 minutes to defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 at BC Place on Wednesday night.

Fabián Castillo opened the scoring in the 60th minute, receiving a flick on from fellow Colombian David Ferreira before juking past a couple of ‘Caps defenders and slotting a ball in off the post. The play started from a Zach Loyd throw-in, and when the ball came to Castillo, he did well to get off his shot despite falling on the play.

Ten minutes later, Dallas made it two through substitute Jonathan Top. Ferreira made the play once again, outmuscling Andy O’Brien and beating Martín Bonjour on the dribble before setting Top up for the tap-in.

Recap: FCD hold on for dear life as Chivas earn 1-1 draw

CARSON, Calif. – FC Dallas squandered an opportunity to stay in close contention for an MLS Cup playoff spot by failing to protect a lead and settled for a 1-1 draw with Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center on Sunday.

Jorge Villafaña scored a 69th-minute equalizer and Kevin Hartman was forced into three big saves in the final minutes as Dallas were forced to settle for a point.

FCD are now four points back of Vancouver for the fifth and final Western Conference playoff spot. Each side has two games remaining, which means FC Dallas must have at least one win and one draw over their final two (at Seattle, Chivas) while Vancouver cannot win of their last two (Portland, at Real Salt Lake).

Default FC Dallas Remains Perfect at Home with 2-0 Win over Real Salt Lake

FC Dallas (3-1-0, 9 points) won its third straight match at home, 2-0, over Real Salt Lake tonight at FC Dallas Stadium.

FC Dallas' Jackson assisted on Fabain Castillo's goal in the 71st minute before scoring one of his own in the 81st minute to earn Budweiser Man of the Match honors. In goal, Chris Seitz made four saves to pick up his first shutout since Aug. 29, 2009.

Making his first start since forgoing the final months of his 2012 season to donate bone marrow, Seitz was called upon in just the 13th minute. The play began with Real Salt Lake forward Joao Plata beating out his defender to retrieve a ball played over the top of the FC Dallas backline. Plata gained control of the ball well inside the area, off to the left side of Seitz and attempted to pass to Luis Gil at the back post. The ball made it to Gil, but was off target just enough to allow Seitz to make a sliding save to deny Salt Lake of an early lead.

FC Dallas countered in the 22nd minute with a combination play involving the majority of the team's attacking players. Castillo started the assault by finding Kenny Cooper on the left flank. Cooper knocked a pass inside to Jackson, who managed to slip a ball outside to late-arriving defender Zach Loyd. Loyd showed shot but instead slotted a ball back inside for Cooper, who put a ball towards goal with his first touch. Fortunately for Real Salt Lake, defender Nat Borchers stayed home and managed to save Cooper's attempt from crossing the goal line with a last-ditch slide tackle before the ball barely missed the crossbar on its way out of play.

Following a scoreless first half, FC Dallas center back George John tested Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Josh Saunders in the 51st minute. Castillo, once gain, initiated the chance. This time Castillo earned FC Dallas a free kick 45 yards from goal. David Ferreira stepped to the set piece and put a ball into the path of John, who snapped a header towards goal only to fire the ball directly at Saunders.

Jackson played the role of creator on FC Dallas' goal in the 71st minute. The Brazilian received the ball on the right flank and switched the point of attack with a 40-yard pass to Castillo on the left flank. Isolated against his defender, Castillo beat his marker with a right-to-left move before hammering a shot over Saunders' head and into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Real Salt Lake fought to even the score and nearly did in the 77th minute when right midfielder Ned Grabavoy found Robbie Findley running across the top of the box. Findley managed to pull Seitz off his line and nearly beat him to the back post, but the 6-3 goalkeeper got his left hand to the shot, killing the ball at the top of the six-yard box. Salt Lake forward Devon Sandoval was first to the loose ball, hitting a first-touch strike towards goal, but second-year defender Matt Hedges arrived a half-second later to knock the ball away and save a sure goal.

FC Dallas' second goal came off a defensive miscue by Salt Lake in the 81st minute. Jackson was there to take advantage, stealing a ball off the foot of Saunders with a slide-tackle that sent the ball rolling slowly over the goal line

    Default Late Goal Downs Revs

FC Dallas forward Blas Perez came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in the 87th minute and send the New England Revolution to a 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.

The Revs (1-2-1, 4 pts.) appeared to be on their way to a second consecutive scoreless draw until Perez struck late, latching onto David Ferreira's delicate chip and guiding a header off the far post and into the net.

FC Dallas (4-1-0, 12 pts.) remains atop the Western Conference standings with the victory, while the Revs have now been shut out in three consecutive matches since opening the season with a win in Chicago.

After using a single striker in the first three games, Jay Heaps opted to deploy a more traditional two-forward setup against Dallas. Jerry Bengtson returned from international duty to regain his starting spot and was partnered up top by Ryan Guy, making his first start of the season.

The visitors generated the first serious chance in the 14th minute when Kenny Cooper's low cross flashed across the face of goal, but Jackson narrowly missed connecting after escaping to the back post.

Diego ***undez - making his first start of the season on the left wing - had the Revolution's best chance of the first half in the 34th minute when his low effort from 20 yards was hit straight at FCD goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.

Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth - starting in place of the injured Matt Reis - came up with a huge save in the 40th minute, rushing off his line to stifle Ferreira's close-range blast.

The Revs started the second half brightly and Bengtson went close in the 58th minute when his looping header from Juan Toja's cross was tipped over the crossbar by Fernandez.

Cooper found the back of the net for FC Dallas in the 63rd minute when he flicked a header past Shuttleworth, but the goal was waved off as the flag went up for offside. Three minutes later George John's header appeared goal-bound until Lee Nguyen - positioned on the post during a corner kick - cleared it off the line.

The game continued to open up for both sides and at the other end of the field Kevin Alston broke into the box all alone in the 69th minute only for Fernandez to make a sprawling save low to his left. Fernandez came up big again in the 80th minute, smothering Toja's shot from inside the six.

The sides appeared destined to finish goalless, but Perez ensured the visitors left Foxborough with all three points when he struck three minutes from time.

The Revs have a bye on the schedule next weekend and won't return to action until Saturday, April 13, when they'll travel cross-country to visit Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.

    Default Unbeaten streak ends

MLS points leaders FC Dallas made an early season statement to the rest of the league by defeating the previously unbeaten LA Galaxy 1-0 at FC Dallas Stadium on Saturday night.

As has become the norm for FC Dallas matches, the excitement came late as defender George John scored off a rebound when Eric Hassli's header hit the crossbar in the 87th minute. It was the 10th goal in the last 15 minutes of an FC Dallas match this season (four scored by Dallas, six by their opponents).

With both teams cancelling each other out in the first half (neither team had a shot on target), the match took a decisive turn in the 60th minute when LA defender Leonardo was shown red for taking down Dallas forward Blas Perez in the box. On the ensuing PK, Galaxy goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini guessed correctly and saved Kenny Cooper's attempt from the spot.

Minutes later, the 10-man Galaxy earned a penalty of their own when John tripped up LA forward Jose Villarreal in the opposite box. LA captain Landon Donovan stepped up to take the PK only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Raul Fernandez, who dove to his left to make the stop.

Fernandez's save set up John's late heroics, although his game-winning header was marred by a projectile thrown by FC Dallas supporters which struck the defender in the head and left him on the ground during the minutes immediately following his strike.

The clean sheet was the fourth of the season for FC Dallas, who continued a trend of defensive dominance, especially in the first half of matches. Dallas has now shut out their opponents in the first half of all seven matches this season.

While the home team fielded the same lineup that drew 2-2 in Toronto last weekend, the Galaxy welcomed Donovan into the starting lineup for the first time during the MLS regular season, while rookie left back Greg Cochrane, a second-round selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, made his first career start.

Both teams will a enjoy a week of home cooking as FC Dallas plays the Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday evening at FC Dallas Stadium (8:30 p.m. ET, MLS LIVE) while the Galaxy take on Sporting KC at The Home Depot Center in another nationally televised match on NBC Sports Network (10:30 p.m. ET/ 7:30 p.m. PT).

FC Dallas (6-1-1, 19 points) scored in each half and picked up its fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at FC Dallas Stadium tonight.

By the 16th minute, FC Dallas already had three chances to take the lead narrowly miss the mark.

The first opportunity came in just the second minute, when Blas Perez intercepted a clearance attempt from a Whitecaps FC defender and cracked a shot on goal with his first touch. The shot forced goalkeeper Joe Cannon to make a diving save to his right side.

It was Kenny Cooper's turn in the 11th minute, when defender Zach Loyd knocked a lead pass into space for the forward. Cooper also utilized his first touch, sending a rocket shot at Cannon from the top right corner of the area. Vancouver's goalkeeper stood his ground and managed to get a finger to the knuckling ball, pushing the shot just over the crossbar.

FC Dallas' best opportunity came in the 16th minute. Jackson received a pass on the right flank and bent a perfect cross in to the head of Perez. The Panamanian striker did all he could to score, redirecting a hard shot on goal with his forehead, but the chance was directly at Cannon, who punched the ball away to keep the match scoreless.

Cannon was finally beaten in the 29th minute following an FC Dallas corner kick taken by David Ferreira. The former MLS MVP swung a pass into the near post where defender Matt Hedges was making his run. Hedges fooled the Whitecaps FC defense by jumping out of the way at the last second and allowing the ball to run through the area. The ball bounced inside the six-yard box before striking Vancouver's Brad Rusin in the back and ricocheting across the goal line to give FC Dallas the first goal of the game for the eighth-straight match.

Vancouver's best opportunity to equalize came in the 41st minute. Nigel Reo-Coker received a pass just inside the left corner of the area and sent a bending cross to the back post. FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez was able to get a hand to the shot, but was not able to avoid giving up a rebound. Vancouver's Matt Watson was first to the loose ball and looked to have scored easily until defender George John made a goal-saving slide tackle to knock the ball wide of the goal.

The slide-tackle from John improved FC Dallas' streak of first-half shutouts to a perfect eight-for-eight this season.

FC Dallas took a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute on a goal scored by Perez. The play began when a shot attempt by defender Jair Benitez was blocked. This time, it was Cooper who was first to the loose ball. The forward once again ripped a shot towards goal with his first touch. As the ball crossed into the area, it struck a Vancouver defender in the leg, redirecting into the path of Perez, who finished his third goal of the season with a simple header.

Vancouver nearly cut the two-goal deficit in half in the 82nd minute after earning a free kick just outside the area. Second-half substitute Camilo Sanvezzo opted to take the kick, bending a hard shot around the wall and at the back post. The ball swerved hard to its left after passing by the wall, just missing the left post behind Fernandez.
