We have two 2010 All Stars on our bench. Has that ever happened before? Where a team has two all stars from the previous year coming off the bench? Pretty cool and funny that not one of the starters has ever played in an All Star game.
Roy is a shell of his former self. It's not really accurate to think of him as an all-star. However, I do like our bench. It's looking pretty solid now that both Camby and Roy are back, and we've added Wallace.
I suspect Wallace will be starting soon, so it will remain to be seen if Batum can contribute effectively off the bench.
It has certainly improved. Patty will be the key. Which is a little scary. But I did like his pressure on Arenas last night. He was irratating Gilbert to the point were I counted Arenas pushing off 5 different times. Two of which he was called for an offensive foul. I think Roy and Mills complement each other. Mills can shoot but is not the best playmaker. Roy has been doing a good job of finding the open shooter. Now they just need to hit them .
We certainly have a much deeper bench than we had two weeks ago. The drop off in scoring that the Blazers used to endure and that used to force Nate to keep starters in with the second unit is disappearing. The second unit is going to do nothing but improve as players shake off rust and begin to learn each others games. What's not to like about this development heading into the playoffs?
Philly has Thad Young, Lou Williams, Evan Turner, and Marresse Speights coming off the bench, with Kapono and Nocioni as insurance. I think they have the best bench in the L.
Did Payton and Malone come off the bench for the Lakers that one year? I believe both had been all stars the year before.
I just think about how much better this team would be if they had a healthy Oden this year. Even basically losing Roy, I think a healthy Oden with LMA, Wallace, Batum, Wes, Dre and the rest would be fighting for a top 2 seed.
If Roy can keep it going, Rudy can get back on track, and Wallace gets more comfortable, I would say we definitely have a top 3 bench in the league.
I wonder if Batum is better playing with Roy though, since he's more spot-up-centric than Wallace is. I can see where Batum off the bench would be better for Batum and Roy, and for the team overall... Someone better photocopy that playbook and get it to Gerald quick.
Yeah, but would Aldridge have had the transformation that he did if Roy had been healthy all year? Would we have made the move for Wallace if the roster was healthy? So many variables... hard to say what would have happened.
Very true, Batum may be better off the bench. I want Wallace to start, and I think he will soon. With Roy, Batum, Rudy, and Patty we have a pretty fun bench unit.
