Recorded the game. Blazers game first last night. 3-0 right now 35 minutes played. Boy, this team doesn't look very good so far!

Colorado is set up to take advantage of Portland's weakness in the middle. Portland is going to struggle to keep possession in midfield and when you have two of the better defensive mids in Pablo Mastroeni and Jeff Larentowicz lining up against you, you're going to look even worse than you are. You should beat Toronto easily.

Portland fans: Timbers' debut "means everything"
Fans emotional as momentous occasion overshadows loss to Colorado

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Adam Marshall and Jared Cushman broke off from a Timbers Army crowd gathered near the south entrance to Dick’s Sporting Goods Field prior to the game on Saturday night. They wandered to the gate and gazed for a few minutes through the bars, taking in the manicured field and the empty seats.

Marshall and Cushman were just two of about 500 Timbers faithful who came to Colorado to witness their team’s entrance into its inaugural MLS season.

“It means everything,” Marshall said. “All the hard work, not only by [owner] Merritt Paulson and the Timbers front office, but all the hard work of the Army and all the Timbers supporters have given to get us to the top level of American soccer. There’s so many emotions going through us.”

Marshall works for a beverage distributor, Cushman for a courier service. They have been Timbers fans for years and there was no way that they were going to miss their team’s inaugural MLS game.

I still dont know what to make of our Midfield. Pore isnt a starter in this league. Zizzo has been solid since coming here, and he was out. Jewsbury was decent, and he hasnt had the chance to gel yet. Add a DP Mid and I dont think its a weakness. Right now it is short handed though. I am more worried about our backline.. Wallace and Goldwaite were so bad. I'm hoping Wallace was just jitters, and he is still young. Goldwaite hasnt impressed me since he came over last year.

but how much can the Midfield do when the Backline constantly would just panic and hoof it when they touch it, bypassing the midfield altogether. I am taking the wait and see approach on the midfield.

also.. Alhassan looked pretty good in there. All his passes were positive passes it seemed. His feet are made of Velcro I swear.

Honestly, Colorado was probably the worst team for Portland to start with. The Galaxy have more overall talent when healthy, but they play more on the wings with Donovan and Beckham, while Colorado play through the middle with Mastroeni and Larentowicz in midfield and Conor Casey and Omar Cummings up front. Casey and Cummings are arguably the best forward combo in MLS.

Timbers look good wide and up front like I've said, but there's no foundation in the middle.

yep.. and when he got in open space all the defense had to do was close him down, and he couldnt dribble out of it. I remember at least two times where they got it to him on the wing for a cross but he held up and passed it backwards, completely killing the momentum, and the men advantage we had going forwards.
