"Two Cardinals players who each missed roughly half a season last year because of injury, third baseman David Freese and righthander Kyle Lohse, both continued to display Friday night that they were healthy and potentially could be very productive.

Freese, who was out after late June because of foot problems that required surgery on both ankles, hit a two-run homer in a 3-2 Cardinals loss to Washington, raising his spring total to 12 runs batted in, second on the club.

Lohse, who had forearm problems in each of the last two seasons, pitched six innings for the second time this exhibition season, increasing his staff-leading total for innings pitched to 24. He gave up two earned runs, leaving him with a 1.88 ERA.

"They've been two of the real highlights of the spring," said manager Tony La Russa."
