The Medicine Hat Tigers have evened up their Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

19-year old goalkeeper Devan Dubyk turned aside 38 shots in leading the Tigers to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings in game two of their best of seven series Saturday night.

Making his first ever playoff start, the former Wheat Kings' prospect got the nod when all star Tyler Bunz was forced to the sidelines after aggravating an upper body injury in Friday's 7-2 series opening loss to Brandon.

"I thought we played well, and Dubyk was the difference," Brandon general manager and coach told Bruce Luebke on CKLQ's post game show. "We had 40 shots on the road, we had a lot of scoring chances, we didn't give up a lot...We talk sometimes about timely goals of late that we've scoring that have worked to our advantage, I thought we needed a goal at the right time."

Veteran Scott Glennie scored both goals in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who pulled to within a goal early in the third period and despite some excellent scoring chances, they couldn't solve the Medicine Hat netminder. After Jace Coyle's wrist shot from the point beat Brandon goalkeeper Corbin Boes with just over eight minutes remaining in the third period, WHL scoring champion Linden Vey added an empty-netter.

Glennie is Brandon's active playoff scoring leader with eight goals and 31 points in 35 games since joining the Wheat Kings in 2007.

Sebastian Owuya, Dylan Bredo and Boston Leier rounded out the scoring for the Tigers, who finished third in the conference during the regular season with a record of 46-18-4-4.

With the series even at one, the scene now shifts to Winnipeg's MTS Centre for games three and four scheduled for Monday and Thursday nights, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Wheat Kings have been forced to take their opening round playoff home games to Winnipeg due to the annual Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.

Tickets to this week's games are on sale at the MTS and Keystone Centre box offices, online at ticketmaster.ca or by calling Toll Free 1-855-985-5000. Those western Manitobans interested in travelling to Winnipeg by bus are encouraged to contact Beaver Bus Lines at 571-0231.
