The Edmonton Oil Kings now face a 2-0 deficit in their WHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the provincial rival Red Deer Rebels, as they were defeated 5-1 in Game 2 on Saturday night at the ENMAX Centrium.

A four-point game by potential 2011 NHL first-overall draft pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave the Rebels a 5-3 win in Game 1 on Friday, while Adam Kambeitz and Brett Ferguson were the leaders in Game 2 with three points each. Jordan Hickmott scored the Oil Kings' lone goal on Saturday and leads the team in playoff scoring with one goal and two assists.

Just as they did in Game 1, the Oil Kings fell behind 2-0 in the first period only to battle back and make it 2-1 before the end of the frame. Nugent-Hopkins and Daulton Siwak spotted the Rebels the two-goal lead, but Hickmott roofed a loose puck on the doorstep with 58 seconds left to cut the Red Deer lead in half.

Kambeitz scored shorthanded in the second and on the power play in the third, while Justin Weller tallied the Rebels' other goal on a breakaway. Shots were even 28-28, giving the Oil Kings a 65-52 edge in the series, as Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves for Red Deer and Jon Groenheyde stopped 23 for Edmonton.

The bad blood continued for the provincial enemies in Game 2, as there were 13 roughing penalties, two fighting majors, three 10-minute misconducts and 96 total penalty minutes, adding to the four fighting majors and 48 penalty minutes from Game 1.

The Oil Kings will be back to the friendly confines of their home arena for the next two games, as the best-of-seven series shifts to Edmonton with Game 3 on Monday and Game 4 on Thursday, both at 7 p.m. at Rexall Place. Game 5 (if necessary) is schedule for Saturday back in Red Deer at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to both home playoff games are available starting at just $15 by calling 780-414-GOAL or at oilkings.ca. Fans can also secure their seat to every Oil Kings 2011 home playoff game by purchasing the ATB Financial Playoff Pass for just $40.
