The Vancouver Giants lost 5-4 to the Tri-City Americans Saturday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington to go down 2-0 in their best of seven Western Conference Quarter-Final Series.

The Giants got off to a great start as Brendan Gallagher scored just 24 seconds into the game to get Vancouver on the board. However, the Americans would score the next three goals, one 4-on-4, one shorthanded, and one even strength to take a 3-1 lead. Michael Burns potted his first of the post season on a late power play to make it a 3-2 game in favour of the Americans through 20 minutes of play.

Vancouver didn't waste anytime tying the game up in the second period. Nathan Burns banged one past Drew Owsley to tie the game at 3-3 1:52 into the frame. The Americans would respond though, scoring back to back goals to restore their two goal advantage. The 5th goal coming on a 5-on-3 power play. The Giants though would get one before the period was out as Jordan Martinook scored on the power play to get the Giants within one after 40 minutes. 5-4 Tri-City after 2 periods.

Looking for the equalizer in the third period, the Giants had their chances, especially on the power play. Unfortunately, they would go 0-for-4 with the man advantage in the frame and end up losing 5-4. Vancouver finished 2-for-9 on the power play, while the Americans were 1-for-5. Final shots were 33-32 in favour of Tri-City. With the win the Americans take a 2-0 series lead.

The series now shifts to Vancouver for Games 3 and 4, beginnning Tuesday night, March 29th, at the Pacific Coliseum. Game time is 7:00pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30pm on AM 650. For ticket information be sure to check out vancouvergiants.com.
