"It's going to be quite a party for the Predators in Las Vegas this June.

Coach Barry Trotz was the latest to join the team's entourage to the NHL awards gala when he was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award on Friday.

The award goes to the league's best coach. Trotz is a finalist for the second year in a row. The other finalists are Vancouver's Alain Vigneault and Pittsburgh's Dan Bylsma.

"Every year he does a great job. He gets better every year," Predators General Manager David Poile said. "His handling of the players is second to none; his work ethic is second to none. For a GM, he's great to work with. He gets it."

Now in his 13th season with the Predators, Trotz was described as the type of coach who knows how to walk a fine line. He can apply discipline when he has to, but he can morph into a mentor if needed.

"He's very positive and very confident in his players," defenseman Shane O'Brien said. "He gives you confidence and there's not a whole lot of negativity around here, so it's nice to come to the rink every day and play for him, and more importantly it's nice to be around him. He makes you feel comfortable.""
