Theres another city in the market for the NHL and that happens to be the city of Seattle. Vancouver currently has a monopoly on that part of the country and I know we had talks in the past about a team potentially being in Portland. What do you guys think about a team going to Seattle? I personally think if any team goes to Seattle it will be the Coyotes. They have another year down in Arizona and theres already a potential name change for the team.
Their current arena has a scale issue right? Something dealing with some parts of the arena having better sight than others?
From what I recall, the Sonics left because the Arena isnt big enough for a NBA team. It seats 11,000 for a hockey game. The Islanders on average draw 11,000 fans. They cant just keep polishing the Key Arena turd. If they build a new Arena, someone will come.
It would make a pretty good rival for vancouver, edmonton, and calgary if a team ended up in that area. Games would also be guaranteed to be sold out when they play vancouver. I think its a pretty good idea but they need to build a new arena first so I think it'll be a while away, even if the Coyotes move next year they aren't going to seattle.
This rumor has been going around for a while and some NHL dude was in Seattle talking about an organization that wants one.
I personally wouldn't mind getting a team in Quebec City, Winnipeg and Seattle. Personally I don't think the Thrashers, Coyotes and Islanders are doing that well in their cities. Thrashers organization sue each other all the time, and only care about the Hawks. The Coyotes don't have one at all. And the Islanders organization makes fans on Long Island not even like the team. Thrashers to Winnipeg, Islanders to Quebec City, and Coyotes to Seattle.
I like Bill Simmons' idea of having 12 Canadian teams and 12 American teams (not sure how the divisions would work maybe Canada/USA or just East/West) but i'm not gonna lie, that would be a fucking awesome league. It would have me watching the NHL all the time.
I also don't understand how cities like Atlanta (and Phoenix) even have hockey teams when no one cares about it there. I lived in Atlanta for 3 years, trust me, no one gave a shit, not even their media.
I forgot about Hartford, they need one. The Fail Whale in the AHL is not doing it. Send the Islanders there instead?
As long as the bad owners get kicked out and good owners fill in, I don't really care where teams go. Quebec City, Winnipeg, Hartford, and Seattle would all be suitable in my opinion. The rumors of Kansas City are dumb, and a team in Las Vegas wouldn't be a good idea.
It's an up-and-coming city with a lot of young businesses. Teams would be crazy not to look at Kansas City.
