Canzano just brought ip how a part of the brain trust of the front office might consider askin Roy to retire. What would it take to restructure his contract? Is that even an option?
It's not an option under the current CBA if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps it will be allowed under the new one, but at this point, contracts can't be re-negotiated.
Not to mention you're asking someone who loves the game (and obviously feels he has something left) to just get up and leave.
CRAPZANO is clueless! He's simply trying to stir shit up and get attention on the day his radio show moved to the AM dial.
This is one of Canzano's dumber ideas. Roy was arguably the best player for Portland in the playoffs, and the best player in the two wins. Dumb dumb dumb
"how a part of the brain trust of the front office might consider" Canzano is a fucking liar if he tried to to suggest that someone told him this. Can't he just bring up a topic on his show without trying to pass it off as having inside info?
He called it 100% on the Cho/Roy suspension, and Cho even went on Canzano's show and validated it. Look back a week and see those who were bashing Canzano for making it up. Sorry, you guys were wrong. The only thing predictable about a Canzano S2 thread is that he will be bashed for not knowing anything. Yet, I've seen him ahead of more stories than anyone on S2, period. I've actually never really read anything newsworthy on S2 in terms of news being reported from an inside source.
That's the difference between Canzano, who puts his name behind things, and everybody else who claims to have inside sources. I realize why you don't post things you may see or hear, though. Frankly, I'm surprised you're allowed to post on a message board.
It's part of the therapy now in Salem. They think it helps to have the patients discuss their fantasies with people on the outside. barfo
It would be ridiculously stupid for the Blazers to ask Roy that, and even dumber for Roy to actually do it. Ed O.
Why? The guy is bone on bone in both knees, a condition that will only worsen the more he plays? A medical retirement serves him and the Blazers well. I don't think he will do it yet but it's IMO certainly not dumb to consider it - does Roy want to become a cripple and have double knee replacements before he is 30?
Why? I can think of 50-60 million reasons. Only Roy knows how much pain he is in. If he continues to get worse then he may consider it. Even Canzano thinks the question is absurd. The discussion would be very short if they did.
I hope he considers it and medically retires (he gets fully paid BTW), his overall play was dismal. If not and if there is an amnesty clause (where Roy still gets paid then we use it and wish Roy the best buy adios).
If I'm not mistaken I think Ed O is saying that for Roy to RETIRE it would be colossally dumb, because he'd essentially be walking away from the rest of his contract. A MEDICAL RETIREMENT is an entirely different thing where he would be paid ... but that's not what Canzano appears to be suggesting.
