Welterweight contender Sebastian Lujan (35-5-2, 24 Ko’s) stopped prospect Mark Melligen (21-3, 14 KO’s) in the 9th round on Friday night at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. It was thought that the heavy handed Melligen would be competitive and perhaps good enough to pass this big test against the hard hitting Lujan.

However, the fight ended up as a huge mismatch with Lujan dropping Melligen four times in the fight. The fight was halted after Lujan had knocked the hapless Melligen down for the 4th time in the fight. It’s a credit to Melligen that he got up from knockdowns in rounds six, seven, and eight, but he finally was taken out in the 9th. The bout was halted at 0:45 of the 9th round.
