    The Seattle Seahawks and starting middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu have "mutually parted ways."

    Tatupu, the Seahawks' defensive captain, met with Seattle coach Pete Carroll on Saturday night and asked for his release after the Seahawks asked him to take a pay cut, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

    A team spokesman confirmed the decision Sunday morning. The Seahawks were practicing Sunday afternoon.
