I suppose anyone on this board was probably watching Fight Night tonight rather than the expensive boxing PPV, and is just now hearing about the debacle that was the Mayweather/Ortiz bout.

Ortiz had Mayweather in the corner and (as he had for most of the night) lead with his head, butting Mayweather intentionally. The referee separated the fighters and took a point from Ortiz. The ref restarted the fight (it seems) but really wasn't paying attention as he kept looking over to the ringside officials or timekeeper or someone.

At this point Ortiz comes to the centre of the ring to apologize to Mayweather, touch gloves, whatever. As they start to separate Mayweather lunges at Ortiz, hitting him. Ortiz looks over to the ref, the ref stars blankly with his mouth open, and Mayweather throws another punch putting Ortiz down for the count.

And we're not done yet. After the fight, boxing's most famous drunk, Larry Merchant, called Mayweather out for the suckerpunch, Money tells him he doesn't know anything about boxing, and Merchant tells Money if he was 50-years younger he'd kick his ass. Overall a proud night for the sweet science.

I don't know what Ortiz was thinking after the first punch. His decision not to defend himself was a costly one.

In related news, Mayweather reportedly made $25-million for that.

How many times was Ortiz going to apologies?
