New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, conspicuously quiet during his team's turbulent offseason, broke his silence Thursday, defending quarterback Mark Sanchez's work ethic and claiming he understands the sniping in the locker room.

Johnson, appearing as a guest on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," didn't seem bothered by the unrest. Asked if his team is mired in "turmoil" and "chaos," Johnson didn't try to disagree.

"It should be," he said. "I mean, quite frankly, New Yorkers don't like losers and even if it's an 8-8 record, that's not good enough here. They want a winner and there is frustration and that's what you want."
