I think people either see the world as black and white, or in shades of grey.

Not visually, but how things are.

Either you're wrong or your right, there is no debate or you see both sides of an argument (etc).

What is your "view" in this regard?

For me, I see things as only shades of grey.

I have a theory that those who see things as shades of grey are more progressive/liberal, and those who see things as black or white as more conservative.

Of course, there is always exceptions to the rule.

If "liberals" see things as shade of grey, it's really another way of saying how much more govt. we can foist on everyone.

    Uh...

I meant in the sense that things aren't clean cut or cut and dry. It doesn't necessarily have to do with or politics or big government.

I meant, govt. - all in! Since its not, it's a shade of grey.

Anyone with a clue about logic doesn't see answers as binary, yes/no or black/white.

Why are the liberal politicians always literally dividing people as black and white, then? The Congressional Black Caucus isn't a conservative organization, is it?

I have another theory. You posted the above drivel to elevate yourself as being superior to those who disagree with your liberal leanings. I'm more conservative than liberal, at least fiscally and in terms of national security, but I don't lump people into groups based on their race, sex, socio-economic class, or sexual orientation. That's what liberals do, quite literally.

Yeah, that's it. I posted on a basketball message board to elevate myself as being superior to those who disagree with my liberal leanings.

How ironic. You said that to elevate yourself as being superior to those who disagree with your conservative leanings.

I disagree with this 100%. I have met just as many liberals as conservatives who view the world as black & white, or shades of grey. In fact, in my lifetime I'v e noticed conservatives more willing to compromise- but not by much.

My post hurt you, eh? It was a dumb post, and you didn't address any factual point (like the CBC) that I made in my post.

Crying is for those who view things in black and white.

Nice thread, by the way. You can't argue the point made against your easily debated opinion, so your resort to silliness. Tell me again how liberals see things in "grey". Let's start over here.

Better recheck yourself. That is an awfully black and white kind of theory you are throwing out there. Maybe you are conservative after all.

I think your black and white theory doesn't hold true. As already pointed out there is a lot of over lap here and really seeing thing in black and white (vs. grey) doesn't really define your poilitcal party. Really there are a lot of shades of grey to all this.

You might be the perfect example, thinks in terms of black and white but probably not on every topic and probably not a conservative????

It's all grey to me. . . wait does that mean I am liberal?

    Old people have grey hair
    Old people love social security
    Liberals love social security
    er go--liberals love grey

    My logic is infallible.

Open-mindedness is good but public figures having a change of heart/opinion is seen as dithering and weakness. Its one thing to stand by your beliefs and something different to stick with an opinion when evidence/persuasive arguments to the contrary build up like mountains.

I think most people are less hard-line than the media would have you believe. It seems that the most hyperbolic opinions are the ones people tend to fixate on, or at least the ones that get the most publicity. The social discourse suffers as a result.
