There are far more than 58 places that fall under the National Park System in the US.

I think it's either troubling or absurd that a guy who hasn't passed a budget in three years, and whose last attempt was defeated 97-0 in the Senate, has the audacity to criticize a plan that actually tries to trim the annual deficit and our exploding debt.

    "Hundreds of National Parks"

    Not national forests, reserves, etc.

    "Parks"

glad you knew what he was talking about, and know what he was referring specifically to. he said national parks. under our national parks system, there is more than 58. He of course is ONLY referring to the 58, of hundreds, because he's not your guy, and doesn't get a pass I suppose. More than 58.

Whatever. He said national parks. The entire NPS only has 397 units, anyhow. Another blunder from the doofball-in-chief who was trying yet again to use hyperbole to score political points. It's all the guy has in his quiver.

At least he didn't say there are 57 states this time, though, so it's an improvement. I'll give him that.

397 is more than 58. Hundreds of those could close for part of the year. Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled OMG!!1! Dumbest president ever! thread.

How do you close a protected area? They're already closed.

If they're closed, I guess nobody ever goes there then.
They're not closed. They're protected. Do those two words mean the same to you?

Jeez, you'll do anything to protect this idiot. Do the words "hundreds of national parks" mean "protected areas" to you?

Have you been to a protected area? Tell me how you "close" it. I think you're getting confused with state parks?

are those protected areas under the national park system?

the words hundreds of national parks does not mean protected areas to me. The words hundreds of national parks means hundreds of national parks to me. To you it means 58. To each their own.

As is mentioned in the article, we have to make difficult cuts now to bring about a balanced budget. Predominately liberal policies of ever expanding every form of social spending (and conservative policies of military expansion) have doomed us to a budget that is a fraction of what the feds bring in. That notion is unsustainable and if not curtailed, at some point in the near future margin will indeed call.

And then what will we do? Use the current Sec. of Treasury ideas of printing phony money?

We have nothing to offer but fear itself (SIC) -- FDR

    Seriously?

With nearly $4T to spend, they can prioritize what to spend it on. Seems to me the parks and other things Obama's trying to scare people over aren't high priority to him.

Don't forget about the protected areas!

Anyhow, Obama can't even get 51 votes in a Dem Senate to pass his budget. It's all a show designed to fool stupid people. The party hacks don't care what he says, truth or otherwise, and the sheeple who don't think for themselves buy this bullshit.
