Assumption: General consensus is that Davis, MKG, T-Rob, Drummond, Beal, and Barnes are the top six players in the draft, and the Blazers will get one of these guys at #6. Assumption: Board consensus seems to be that there are only four players that most Blazer fans would be generally pleased with at #11: Damian Lillard (Best scoring PG in the draft) Kendall Marshall (Best passing PG in the draft) Jeremy Lamb (#1/#2 SG in this draft) Perry Jones III (Elite level talent) Parameters: If those 10 players listed above are in fact the top 10 players picked, who would you settle for as BPA at #11?
Depending on who we draft first, and without seeing workouts yet, I would go with Terrence Ross, John Henson, Austin Rivers, Terrence Jones or Jared Sullinger
I don't know who the best player available at #11 would be under your scenario, but if we take Beal at #6, I don't see us taking another guard at #11.
I think they would be pretty happy with Sullinger or Henson at 11. My guess is Marshall may fall out of that list though. Unless they really want one of the top 3-4 guys, 6 and 11 may return a couple of really nice players. 11 is kind of like 6, in that it is the bottom of a tier. I think the choice will be obvious when it is time for the pick. I would love to see PJIII fall that far. He has insane skills and just needs to mature.
What vet do you think we could get with one or both picks that would help us more than the two picks? Honest question
So far it seems like PF are being mentioned, how do you guys imagine JJ Hickson being involved in that scenario? Playing a starting role with rookie at backup, or not even being re-signed?
Lowry, Rondo, D.Williams (sign and trade?), etc. I think we'll have lots of options and we'll know more once the playoffs are over and more trade rumors start flying... we'll have a better idea of who is available.
Right now it seems like Hickson would be the starter until a rookie displaces him. That is if we can resign Hickson.
Yeah, obvious to everyone here. Then the Blazers will inexplicably draft the next Nolan Smith. Sorry, forgot to take my happy pills this morning.
Yeah, that one will sting until and unless Smith develops into more than he is now. Like missing an unguarded layup.
I honestly think Nolan will end up being a solid back up combo guard that will average 10-12 minutes off the bench for 10+ years. While not great, his PER was 11.4.
When it is there, I post it. Unfortunately there hasn't been much positives to post about in a while. Nolan was a bad draft pick because he was taken too high by an inept front office, but that doesn't mean he won't be a contributer in the league for a while. Plus, he had Nate and Raymond Felton to learn from....Ouch. I wish I knew how to see his PER post Nate
And what exactly do any of those guys alone (and forget Williams because that aint happening) do for this team's prospects of becoming true contending level teams (enough to compete with the likes of OKC, the Heat, et al.)? Honest question.
