If we don't get Hibbert, I keep hearing that plan B is Spencer Hawes. PLEASE NO. It's not that he's a Republican (although he is), it's that he's charmin soft. He's a finesse scorer, when we need a bruiser. So my suggestion is: Greg Stiemsma. Boston just drafted Fab Melo so might not want to overpay Stiemsma.

(Of course, the same thing could be said of us and Meyers Leonard, but I think of Leonard as much more of a project, certainly defensively. Stiemsma is the nearest thing to a young Przybilla there is in the league.) I've liked Stiemsma since I saw him lock up Blake Griffin as an undrafted player in their first Summer League.

Hawes is white, but has a decent PER

Who cares if he's a Republican? Hell, I'd take an anarchist cannibal if he can take some of the frontcourt pressure off of LMA.

Cannibals might lead to arrests and suspensions, which hurt the team. I'm ok with a fascist, though.

I'd take the anarchist cannibal over the Republican.

re: Hawes, don't confuse "skilled" for soft. He's very polished and he has good court vision, and he's starting to figure out when to be confident and when to pass.

I'm not saying he's the Second Coming, and I'd much rather have Hibbert, and I wouldn't like to see us pay him Nic $$, but he's a decent young post player who's getting better. 24's nowhere close to "Big Man Prime"

I keep forgetting how young Hawes is. I wouldn't love it, but wouldn't hate it if we didn't get Hibbert. I think he can also play some high post as a decent passer, with LMA in there.

Again, no. We need another near-allstar or allstar caliber player as part of our nucleus, preferable SG or C. Once we get that, then we should discuss the SHs of the world.

You don't think he's soft? I do. He's bad at defense and not a great rebounder. He doesn't score inside that much. He had a PER of 13.8 or lower his first four seasons in the league, and then in the 37 games he played last year he had a PER of 18. I don't trust the 18.

You go from the #2 FA this offseason to Spencer Hawes...

That's like going from a Porsche 911 to a more economical Honda Civic.

Hibbert's good. But, he's no Deron Williams.

D-Will is clearly the #1 FA this summer.

If we have to go Republican, Chris Dudley is a better center. But to decrease the deficit we should have Center by Committee. Dark horse candidates--Hickson and Juwan Howard. That would cut costs.

I think I'd rather just give Leonard a ton of minutes and suck next year and dip into the lotto.

Jason Quick: Spencer Hawes will also not be an option at center for Blazers unless market dries up. 1 minute ago

How can you write all this gibberish with no mention of the cost or scenario it would take to get him?

If he was free, should we still say no to Hawes?

    Gibberish.

Hawes is the player we used to bring Oden back against to give him self-confidence. Dude's SOFT SOFT SOFT.

they played eachother three times, within the first month of Greg's rookie season here. He scored 18 points. Total. How was that bringing him back to build his confidence exactly?
