She should be fired and do jail time for sexual assault. I don't care how willing the kid was, she's the adult and as a teacher, she is in a position of power and responsibility. She abused that power and behaved very irresponsibly. I hope she is punished appropriately.

Agreed. Kids at that age are all hormone. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but this is very wrong.

 

A female teacher gets several months, a male teacher 1-2 years, and a male non-teacher about 6 years. For the exact same thing.

Uh, I know some "kids" (15 or 16) that look older than some of you, it depends.

"Kids" (16 year olds) commit murder and go to jail for a reason, they are old enough to understand the consequences of their actions.

In Oregon, under measure 11, a juvenile who's significant other is 3 years and 1 day younger gets a mandatory 7 years in prison.

Not sure where you got those numbers, but if anything, the jail time for teachers should be more. They are put in a position of trust and responsibility with children. They are paid and licensed by the state to develop the minds of children. Exploiting their positions of authority to have sex with kids violates that trust and does irreparable psychological damage to the kids they abuse. Joke all you want about that 15-year old stud banging his hot teacher, but that kid is going to have issues down the road because of this.

Ya know, I wonder about that. I think, overall, I will disagree with you. I mean, to be sure there is a grain of truth to that but most young males will see it as sex with an older women and see it as just that. I had sex with a 40 year old when I was a teen and what I learned was a few interesting positions I never thought of.

 

How old were you? 13 and 19 are both "teens" but there's a huge difference in emotional maturity between a 13-year old and a 19-year old. Also, was the woman you had sex with your teacher, or other person of authority? When an emotionally immature person is taken advantage by a person who is supposed to be mentoring them it can lead to trust issues.

I haven't bothered to look it up, but I'm sure there have been studies that show children who are sexually abused by authority figures end up with a distrust of authority. My opinions on this issue aren't based on science, or religion (I do not subscribe to any organized religion). They are based on common sense and personal observation.

Since you brought up religion, you don't think the majority of the alter boys sexually abused by Catholic priests were harmed psychologically? You think they all came through that ordeal unscathed, well adjusted and happy?

Like all other military sons I knew, I got the shit beaten out of me regularly, and I'm much stronger and wiser for it. I didn't like my father much, and that was the norm for our generation.

As for unscathed, well adjusted, and happy, that sounds like the perfect person. I don't expect anyone to have all that. I doubt that any of the altar boys went looney, but I'm sure they'll say so if they can scam a few million dollars each from the Catholic Church.

As far as a couple million each, your number is inflated. In Portland, the Catholic Archdiocese reached a settlement of $75 million awarded to 177 victims (that's $423,000 each). In Seattle, 160 victims settled for $48 million ($300,000 each) and in Boston 552 victims divided up $85 million (about $154,000 each). So, it hardly seems like these victims of sexual abuse were scamming anybody for "a few million dollars each".
