The first Rookie of the Month award for the 2012-13 season will be announced today or tomorrow. Hmmmm, I wonder who will win?!?!? How awesome would it be if he wins it EVERY month!

Re: Lillard - Rookie of the Month

Lillard will win Western Conference ROM by a landslide. It would have been an interesting race, if Anthony Davis had played more, but he only played 5 games to Lillard's 15.

Eastern Conference ROM will most likely go to Dion Waiters due to his 15.3 ppg scoring average for the month. But, that's the problem with ROM and ROY voting, most voters don't look much beyond scoring average. Waiters is a very inefficient, low percentage, volume scorer. He had a horrible FG% of .369 and jacked up 16.8 FGA/36 during November. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist deserves to win, but his 10.9 ppg scoring average won't get the attention of most voters. Even Toronto's Jonas Valanciunas is more deserving than Waiters. In spite of being second in MPG (32.1) to only Lillard, Waiters EFF was a rather ordinary 10.1 for November - 9th among rookies for the month, and his team went 3-12 during November. I'm not impressed.

Here's a comparison of Waiters, Kidd-Gilchrist and Valanciunas for November:

    Dion Waiters: 32.1 mpg, 15.3 ppg, 0.369 FG%, 2.1 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.1 stl, 0.2 blk, EFF = 10.1

    Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: 27.3 mpg, 10.9 ppg, 0.455 FG%, 6.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.2 stl, 1.3 blk, EFF = 14.3

    Jonas Valanciunas: 24.1 mpg, 9.0 ppg, 0.528 FG%, 5.5 rpg, 1.4 apg, 0.2 stl, 1.2 blk, EFF = 12.1

If I was voting, I'd vote for Lillard for Western Conference ROM and Kidd-Gilchrist for Eastern Conference ROM.

Re: Lillard - Rookie of the Month

Well, Kendall Marshall would be a perfect fit on our bench. Perfect in that he'd suck ass as bad as our other rookie bench players. For November:

    Will Barton: EFF = 1.8
    Joel Freeland: EFF = 1.0
    Kendall Marshall: EFF = 0.7
    Victor Claver: EFF = 0.5

But, he'd be a horrible match for the two guys we drafted ahead of him:

    Damian Lillard: EFF = 16.2
    Meyers Leonard: EFF = 8.4

Really not sure why you're comparing stats for guys that aren't even in the rotation.

I think he was explaining that Marshall would be a good bench player; but we picked well because we picked two players that are kicking the shit out of his efficiency.

Thanks for putting up those #'s for the East guys........ can you put up like the top 10 guys like Barnes and Drummond, including Lillard, so we can compare them. I know Dame is going to win, I just want to see his numbers compared to the others.

What he said. I'm just giving HCP shit because he wanted to draft Rivers and Marshall over Lillard and Leonard.

Re: Lillard - Rookie of the Month

Here's a link to all rookies ranked by EFF for the month of November.

Anthony Davis was 1st at EFF = 19.2, but only played in 5 games.

Lillard was second at EFF = 16.2

    Drummond was 5th at EFF = 10.7

    Barnes was 7th at EFF = 10.4

Myers Leonard was 11th at EFF = 8.4

    Rivers was 19th at EFF = 6.7

Those are the numbers for November. Here's the link for the season to date.

That's a great sign because there was such question about Drummond not transitioning to the NBA. I'm happy he's coming in and doing well so far.

Re: Lillard - Rookie of the Month

BTW, I think it's interesting that Meyers Leonard has hovered right around 11th in rookie EFF all season. He's moved around a little between 9th and 12th, but he's always right around 11th. I'm quite happy with that. The guy was viewed as VERY raw (he is) an a long term project. He was drafted more for potential than immediate production. But, he's already justifying his draft position as the 11th most productive rookie of his draft class.

Of course, time will tell if he was really worth the 11th pick, but so far, I'm happy with his production at the position where he was drafted. Sure, he's wildly inconsistent and makes a ton of rookie mistakes, but the long term potential is still there and he's already making some positive contributions.

Mike Rice was visibly ill at the mention of Drummond's name during pre-draft workouts.

    Fez's talent evaluation >>>> Rice's!

Officially I believe I wanted Barnes and Lamb/T. Jones

When we took Dame, I couldn't argue with the pick though.

Re: Lillard - Rookie of the Month

BTW, Drummond is 2nd in rookie Win Shares at 1.1, trailing only Lillard at 1.5. Meyers Leonard is 7th at 0.7 WS.

BTW, Austin Rivers is dead last, 60th out of the 60th players drafted at -0.5 WS. That's NEGATIVE 0.5 WS. He trails the guys who didn't even make an NBA roster (WS = 0.0).

That's like asking if there is a difference between downtown Portland and downtown Boise!
