San Antonio Talons Add Andre Jones to Secondary

    Former San Jose SaberCat, Andre Jones has been assigned to the San Antonio Talons. Jones (5-11, 195) recorded 77 tackles and five interceptions last season with the San Jose SaberCats. Prior to that in the 2011 season he earned Second-Team All-Arena honors with a record of 60.5 tackles and 10 interceptions as a rookie with the Milwaukee Mustangs.

    "With training camp right around the corner, Andre was the final touch we needed to complete our secondary," said Head Coach Lee Johnson, "we've put together a great team and I don't expect anything but the best from these guys."

    Jones was a four-year starter at the University of Akron where he spent his first two seasons as a safety, racking up 184 tackles, four interceptions, ten passes defensed, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one sack in 24 games. Of those games there were only two where he was not a starter. During his junior and senior year he transitioned over to wide receiver where he started in 19 of 23 games and had a total of 80 catches for 1,231 yard with 11 touchdowns. He earned All-Mid-American Conference honors as a senior.

    After a short time with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, Jones was quick develop his career in the AFL; leading the Milwaukee Mustangs and finishing fifth in the league with ten interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, despite playing in only 12 games. The Forestville, Maryland native also finished with 60.5 tackles, 16 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

    The Talons are anticipating fierce rivalry for their first home game against the San Jose SaberCats on March 23. "Playing against our former quarterback Aaron Garcia, and having Andre on our team is going to make for a great, competitive game, " said CEO Beau Raich, "it's guaranteed to be an action packed game."

    The San Antonio Talons are entering into their second season in the Arena Football League (AFL). The team was moved to San Antonio from Tulsa, OK in 2012 and won the AFL's Central Division title, as well as hosted their first AFL playoff game in the 2012 season.
