The USL Premier Development League (commonly known as the PDL) is the amateur league of the United Soccer Leagues in the United States, Canada, and Bermuda, forming part of the American Soccer Pyramid. It is currently the top-level men's amateur soccer competition in the United States, and has 73 teams competing in four conferences, split into nine regional divisions; unofficially, it is considered to be the fourth tier of competition, behind Major League Soccer, the North American Soccer League and the USL Professional Division, and roughly equal with the National Premier Soccer League.

While not strictly a "professional" league in the sense that the majority of players do not receive payment, the PDL prides itself on its professionalism in terms of its organization and the way the league is run, and its dedication to developing young soccer players, preparing them for future careers in professional leagues in the United States and elsewhere. As PDL seasons take place during the summer months, the player pool is drawn mainly from elite NCAA college soccer players seeking to continue playing high-level soccer during their summer break, which they can do while still maintaining their college eligibility.

    Oklahoma City FC Joins PDL
Team joins competitive Mid South Division

TAMPA, Fla. – The Premier Development League is pleased to announce the addition of Oklahoma City FC for the 2013 season. Oklahoma City FC is owned by metro-area residents Sean Jones, Donna Clark and Tim McLaughlin. Sold Out Strategies, led by former Oklahoma City Blazers pro hockey executives Brad Lund and DeBray Ayala, will serve as the managing partner.

“Oklahoma City has traditionally supported its minor and major league sports franchises like no other city in the country,” Oklahoma City FC managing partner DeBray Ayala said. “PDL will be the highest level of soccer played on a regular basis in the metro area in more than 15 years.”

Oklahoma City will compete in the Southern Conference’s Mid South Division featuring five opponents from Texas – the Austin Aztex, El Paso Patriots, Laredo Heat, Texas Dutch Lions, and West Texas Sockers. Oklahoma City FC will play its inaugural season between the months of May-August at Stars Field on the campus of Oklahoma City University and will open at home on May 11 versus the Austin Aztex.

Timbers U-23s Get Past Sounders U-23
Foxhoven's late goal gives Portland 1-0 victory

, Wash. – The Portland Timbers U-23s regained sole possession of first place in the PDL’s Northwest Division as they defeated the Sounders FC U-23 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. A late goal from substitute Zack Foxhoven broke the scoreless draw in the 85th minute, and put the Timbers ahead for good, despite several late chances from the Sounders to equalize.

The enthusiastic crowd of more than a thousand Sounders supporters was treated to an exciting match between equally matched, and rival foes, at Tumwater District Stadium. Although the first half of the contest remained scoreless, the play was open for both sides, and the Sounders and the Timbers had opportunities to get on the board first.

The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is a United States soccer league commonly recognized as being a fourth tier league. It is the successor of the Men's Professional Soccer League, a regional league originally based out of the Western United States, which has now expanded nationwide to encompass teams from 19 states.

Although the league is officially affiliated to the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA), and qualifies for the U.S. Open Cup through USASA channels, the league is generally considered to be at the fourth tier of competition in the United States soccer pyramid, behind Major League Soccer (MLS), the North American Soccer League (NASL) and the United Soccer Leagues Professional Division (USL Pro), and roughly equal with the USL Premier Development League (PDL).

RICHMOND, Va. – For most college students, summers are usually spent on the beach or trying to make enough money to survive another year away from home.

That's not the case for five members of the VCU men's soccer program. They've spent the summer playing a key role in the success of RVA FC, a first-year expansion club in the National Premier Soccer League.

After dominating the regular season to the tune of a 6-0-2 record and outscoring their opponents by the tune of 23-8, RVA FC rolled into the South Regional playoffs. They made quick work of Jacksonville United FC (5-3) before taking the regional championship with a 1-0 win over Chattanooga FC.

Last weekend brought the Erie Admirals, a perennial league contender, to Richmond, but they were sent packing with a decisive 4-0 victory to send RVA FC to the NPSL National Championship game in its first year of existence.

Rising seniors Nathan Shiffman and Romena Bowie, along with rising juniors Assane Keita, Kharlton Belmar and Jose Manel Bel have played crucial roles in the summer success.

In addition, former Rams Nick Rich and Owusu Sekyere have been steady forces for the squad, who takes on the Sonoma County Sol in the National Championship game on Sunday, August 4 at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

The NPSL is a national league that is the successor to the Men's Premier Soccer League, which formed in 2002. After national expansion in 2005, the league continued to grow and now supports nearly 60 teams from four different regions. The teams are comprised of players holding amateur status, which include some of the top high school, collegiate and former pro players across the country.

    Nashville FC:
100 percent supporter-owned, now accepting founding memberships

Never before has a soccer club in the United States been 100 percent supporter-owned and operated, according to the group who now claim they are the first to do so.

Nashville FC is their name, and "Our Town, Our Club" is their motto. In being 100 percent supporter-owned and operated, the draw to Nashville FC is the obvious opportunity to personally participate in choosing the direction of the franchise.

For $75, you can become a "Founder" of the club, which means you get a vote on all major decisions regarding the club, free admission to regular-season home games and the Nashville FC "Founders" scarf. For $40, you can choose to simply become a Member of Nashville FC, which still holds the voting power in all major decisions regarding the club.

San Jose Earthquakes Acquire PDL Franchise
Fourth MLS club to own team in top development league in North America

    Monday, October 28, 2013

TAMPA, Fla. – The PDL announced today the addition of the San Jose Earthquakes to the league for the 2014 season. The Earthquakes will be the fourth club from Major League Soccer to directly field a team in the top development league in North America, joining the Chicago Fire, Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps.

“We are delighted to add the Earthquakes to the PDL,” USL President Tim Holt said. “The PDL has become a true proving ground for college-aged players in the United States and Canada, with MLS clubs making Homegrown Player signings of those who have come through their PDL clubs. We expect the Earthquakes will take advantage of similar opportunities in the near future as their academy players graduate into the U-23 ranks.”

Three additional MLS clubs also have partnership agreements with PDL franchises, with the Philadelphia Union holding a partnership with Reading United AC, Seattle Sounders FC with the Sounders FC U-23 and New England Revolution with the Real Boston Rams. The Earthquakes will compete in the Western Conference in 2014, which has seen a number of top players emerge in recent years.

@NPSLSoccer presser to announce puertoRicoFC joining NPSL.

Puerto Rico F.C. announced their plan to represent Puerto Rico in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and Caribbean Football Union (CFU). The Bayamon-based team is the latest professional representation to bring high-level soccer to the ”Island of Enchantment.”

They will host their home games at the Estadio Nacional Juan Ramón Loubriel in Bayamón and will host Group One in the 2014 CFU Championship.

“We are very excited to begin this new project,” said Team President Alberto Santiago. “The opportunity we are giving to local players to grow and push themselves to the next level in the NPSL is a promising one and we are eager to kick it off.”

“We are all aware that soccer has had a tremendous growth in recent years, not only in talent on the field but off the field,” said Puerto Rico F.C.’s General Manager Ignacio Rodríguez. “There has been a surge in news outlets, sales, community outreach, and coaching professionals with great knowledge and preparation. Our vision is to utilize that talent to create an first-class organization that not only will bring a unique fan experience, but also engage the community.”

The NPSL was founded in 2003 and since then has expanded into a nationwide league, competing across four regions. The league’s unique status allows for college players to keep their collegiate status while playing high-level soccer with professional players in a professional environment.

“We are thrilled to further expand our presence as a nationwide league and reach one of the prime markets in the Caribbean,” expressed NPSL Commissioner Michael Hitchcock. “The growth of the game in Puerto Rico has been substantial and we are happy to contribute.”
