Eight different players recorded points and Igor Bobkov made 30 saves as the Norfolk Admirals (16-21-2-1) topped the Charlotte Checkers (25-13-2-3), 3-1, on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

Luca Caputi, Jay Rosehill and Dan Sexton recorded goals for the Admirals. Norfolk's special teams were especially strong, as Caputi and Sexton's goals were scored on the power play and the penalty kill stopped all seven Charlotte man advantages.

The Admirals host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday and Saturday nights at Scope.

After a scoreless opening period, Norfolk used a pair of quick goals in the second period to take the lead. Caputi's second goal of the season came 1:04 into the second stanza on the power play. Nick Schaus sent a shot from the right point that Charlotte goaltender Justin Peters stopped. The rebound came into the slot, and Caputi sent a quick shot past Peters for a 1-0 lead.

Norfolk's lead doubled just over two minutes later. Nate Guenin prevented a Charlotte clearing attempt from exiting the attacking zone. He fed Rosehill the puck in the slot. Peters stopped Rosehill's first shot, but the veteran forward scored on his own rebound. Rosehill's second goal of the season came at 3:11 of the second period and made the score 2-0 in favor of the Admirals.

The home team's lead briefly grew to three goals later in the second period with another power play strike. Matt Smaby sent a pass from the left point that Josh Brittain bumped from the slot into the right circle. Sexton then sent a wrist shot past Peters at 14:34 for his first goal of the season and a 3-1 Norfolk lead.

Charlotte cut the Admirals' lead to 3-1 just over one minute later. David Rutherford entered the attacking zone dropped a pass back to Andreas Nodl in the right circle. Nodl sent a wrist shot that deflected off the stick of a Norfolk defender and eluded Bobkov at 15:41.

However, that would be the only goal to get past Bobkov (8-10-0), who won in his first action since January 5th vs. Syracuse.

Peters (16-8-1) made 28 saves on 31 shots in defeat.

Norfolk was 2-for-3 on the power play. Charlotte was 0-for-7.

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers provide the next opposition to the Admirals on Friday and Saturday nights at Norfolk Scope Arena. The puck drops on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates on Friday will receive the second set of 2012-13 Admirals trading cards, courtesy of Michael and Son Services and JPM Financial Services/John's Tax Service.

On Saturday, the annual Guns and Hoses game to benefit Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters takes place at 4:00 p.m. before the Admirals and Sound Tigers play at 7:15 p.m. A ticket to one game gets you into the other for free.
