On a night where Thunder Dog was celebrating his 20th birthday, Wichita (24-14-3) unloaded with four goals in the second period en route to a 7-0 victory over the Denver Cutthroats (21-16-4) in their first-ever meeting at INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday night. Greger Hanson recorded a natural hat trick, his first as a professional. Torrie Jung earned his second shutout of the season and sixth of his career. Wichita leads the season-series 2-1-0 with another meeting between the two teams coming tomorrow afternoon.

Matt Robinson got Wichita on the board first six minutes into the game as he followed up his own rebound and slid the puck just over the goal line to make it 1-0. Three minutes later, RG Flath took a rebound off the end wall, kicked it to his stick and scored his first of two on the night to make it 2-0.

All season long, the Thunder has been strong in the second period. Wichita put four on the board in the second stanza and two goals in 16 seconds to open the period. Ian Lowe recorded his 13th of the season on a wrap-around at 41 seconds to extend the lead to 3-0. Hanson scored at 57 seconds on a similar play, with the puck redirecting off a Denver player past Kent Patterson to make it 4-0. Hanson then added his second of the period at 3:47 with beautiful snap shot from the right hash mark and made it 5-0. He completed the natural hat trick at 6:41 when a Jarred Mohr shot from the blue line glazed off of his body and got past Kieran Millan, who had come on in relief of Patterson. The two goals to open the second is the fastest two goals scored this season.

Flath added his second goal of the night in the third period to give the Thunder a 7-0 advantage. Jung stayed strong down the stretch and Wichita skated away with their third-straight win.

Hanson had five points while Flath had two goals and two assists. Matt Summers and Neil Trimm each had two assists. Jung won for the 11th time this season, stopping all 14 shots he faced. Wichita held Denver to a season-low 14 shots on net. Denver was shutout for the first time in team history.

Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play while keeping Denver in check as they went 0-for-6.
