Sundogs Win Shootout, 3-2

    The Arizona Sundogs won in a shootout against the Quad City Mallards Saturday night at Tim's Toyota Center, final score 3-2.

    Two minutes into the second period and Quad City's Matt Boyd was called for hooking sending the Sundogs on the power play. 22 seconds later Jake Hauswirth put the Sundogs on the board with a power play goal. Mario Larocque and Derek LeBlanc both collected assists. Matt Duffy tallied a power play goal for the Mallards tying the game 13:42 into the second frame after Arizona's Chad Nehring was assessed two minutes for holding.

    The Mallards pulled ahead in the final period with a goal from Mike Hellyer and assists from Mike Stinziani and Shayne Toporowski. Arizona answered back less than two minutes later when Jason Morgan equalized the game with LeBlanc being credited with an assist forcing the game into overtime and an eventual shootout. Hauswirth and LeBlanc each scored in the five-man shootout pushing the Sundogs to a 3-2 win over the Mallards.

    David Brown took the win for the Sundogs making 33 saves. Both teams skated away with 35 shots on goal. Arizona was 1-4 on the power play and Quad City was 1-5 on the power play. The Sundogs will go on the road for a 12 day road trip where they will play five games in four cities.
