Stingrays Bounce Solar Bears 9-3

    Nine different players recorded multi-point games as the South Carolina Stingrays (21-22-1-3) dropped the Orlando Solar Bears (19-21-2-2) 9-3 in front of a sellout crowd of 10,385 on Pack the House Night at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening. Forward Tyler McNeely led the Stingrays with a season-high five points (one goal, four assists).

    The Solar Bears jumped on the board first with a power-play goal from forward Ryan Cruthers lifting a wrist shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Ryan Zapolski (W, 24 saves on 27 shots) at 8:59 of the first period.

    The Stingrays responded with four goals in the middle frame to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Forward Hunter Bishop tied the game 30 seconds into the period with his team-leading 17 goal of the season slipping a shot between the legs of Solar Bears netminder Patrick Killeen (L, 22 saves on 31 shots). Forward Robby Dee and defenseman Derek Foam picked up assists. Center Chris Langkow put the Stingrays on top at 11:43 tapping a pass from defenseman Scooter Vaughan past the left pad of Killeen. Forward Phil Mangan added the second assist. Less than a minute later, Dee lit the lamp with help from Bishop and McNeely at 12:09. With two seconds left in the period, Langkow tipped in a shot from defenseman Colby Cohen on the man advantage for his 15 goal of the campaign. McNeely registered the second assist.

    In the third period, the Stingrays added five more tallies. Dee potted his second marker of the game at 3:03 from Bishop and McNeely. Vaughan slipped in his first goal of the season at 7:16 from Langkow and Foam. McNeely pitched in his goal on the power play from defensemen Kevin Quick and Cohen at 11:13. Foam powered in his first marker of the year while on the man advantage at 15:13. McNeely and defenseman Damon Kipp earned assists. Rookie Patrick Gaul wrapped up the scoring for the Stingrays with a power-play goal from Cohen and defensemen Luka Vidmar at 15:25.

    Solar Bears forwards Michael Neal (3:57) and Matthew Sisca (8:02) found the twine in the final period. The Stingrays finished the game 4-for-7 on the power play while the Soar Bears went 1-for-4.
