The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Stefan Chaput tallied the winner in the shootout to help the 'Dogs snap their 10-game losing streak on the road.

The two teams played to a scoreless first period with the Bulldogs notching nine shots on goal while holding the Monsters to a season-low three shots in the first period.

The 'Dogs opened the scoring at 17:10 of the second frame on a shorthanded tally by all-star Gabriel Dumont, which was his team-leading 13th goal of the season. Lake Erie Monsters starting goaltender Sami Aittokallio coughed up the puck after coming out of the net and Dumont walked out in front and tapped it into the empty net. After two periods of play, the Bulldogs led the Monsters 27-10 in shots.

Lake Erie tied the game at 6:47 of the third stanza on a power-play marker by Bill Thomas. After some pretty passing, Thomas received the puck and wired it over the right shoulder of Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and off the crossbar and in.

After nothing was settled in overtime, the two teams battled it out over nine rounds in the shootout with the Bulldogs winning 2-1 on Chaput's winner giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 victory. Hamilton outshot Lake Erie 35-23.

The Bulldogs' next game is against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Copps Coliseum on Friday, February 1st at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on Cable 14.
