The two contests were almost mirror images of each other, with the Thunder putting up seven goals both nights. On Friday night, Wichita scored four goals in the second period and two in 16 seconds in the first minute to skate away with a 7-0 victory. Much of the same took place on Saturday as the Thunder scored its first three goals on the power play en route to a 7-1 win. Wichita out-scored the Cutthroats 14-1 over the weekend and out-shot Denver 55-25. The Thunder lead the season-series, 3-1-0. SEVENTH HEAVEN- Wichita scored seven goals in back-to-back games over the weekend. Wichita's 14 goals is its best over a two-game stretch this season. The Thunder also had its second largest crowd of the year on Friday night, which was 7,222. Saturday's nights attendance was even better and a season-high of 8,031. CLUTCH- Matt Summers and Greger Hanson are tied atop the league in game-winning-goals with six. Hanson leads all rookies in scoring with 40 points (20g, 20a). Matt Robinson scored both game-winning-goals over the weekend, giving him two on the season. HATS OFF- Coming into the weekend, Wichita had recorded one hat trick on the season. Greger Hanson and Matt Robinson doubled that effort with their three-goal outings in back-to-back games. Hanson had a natural hat trick and five points on Friday night while Robinson scored a hat trick and five points as well on Saturday evening. The other hat trick was tallied by Neil Trimm on December 7th in a four-point performance over Tulsa. All three hat tricks have been recorded on home-ice. 300/500- Head Coach Kevin McClelland sits at 290 career wins and needs 10 more to reach 300 for his career. He will pass Gary Unger for seventh place with 293 victories. He would become the seventh coach to reach 300 CHL wins. He is also six games away from coaching in his 500th game, all of which have been in the CHL. FIRST GOAL- Playing with the lead has proven to be important for the Thunder. When scoring first, Wichita is 16-1-2. When giving up the first goal, Wichita is 9-13-1. SUNDAY MATINEE- Playing on Sunday has been good to the Thunder so far this season. Wichita is 6-0-1 and 3-0-0 at home on a Sunday. Wichita is also 3-0-0 when playing on a Tuesday with all three wins coming on the road. STREAKS- Eight different players have point streaks going. Kevin Young, who tied for the league-lead in scoring by a blue liner, has the longest active streak for a Thunder player. He has scored in his last six games, recording one goal and five assists. Hanson (5g, 3a), Summers (1g, 7a) and Flath (5g, 5a) are all in the middle of four-game point streaks. Ian Lowe (2g, 3a), Matt Robinson (4g, 3a), Neil Trimm (1g, 6a) and Travis Wight (0g, 3a) have scored in their last three. MARTENS FINDING STRIDE- Andrew Martens has quietly moved into seventh place on the team in scoring with 22 points (5g, 17a). He has recorded points in six of the last eight games and has more than half of his 22 points since Dec. 21st.
