Obi Aduba, Mike Hellyer and Patrik Levesque each provided a goal and two assists as the host Quad City Mallards scored the last five goals of the game on the way to 8-2 rout of the Bloomington Blaze Tuesday night. With the win the Mallards improved to .500 on the season (18-18-5, 41 points), pulled within one point of the eighth place Arizona Sundogs in the race for the final Central Hockey League playoff berth and extended their regulation unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).

The Mallards broke the game open by ripping off three straight second period goals after Bloomington's Steve Makway blasted a power play goal from the top of the right wing circle at 4:19 of the second to briefly cut the Mallard lead to 3-2. A minute and half after Makway scored, Mallard goaltender Neil Conway (35 saves) kept the Mallards in front and set the stage for his teammates' second period outburst by stopping Daniel Barczuk's penalty shot. At 7:28 of the middle frame Matt Boyd converted Jason Dixon's centering feed to make it 4-2; the margin widened to three goals when Levesque fired the puck in under the cross bar at 11:04; at 12:48 Aduba's close range power play goal made it 6-2 and chased Bloomington goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier from the game.

The Mallards capped off the evening's fireworks by scoring twice in 31 seconds early in the third period. Mike Stinziani steered Hellyer's centering pass past relief netminder Dan Dunn at 3:59 of the third. On the very next shift the Mallards set a single game season high when Dixon buried the eighth Quad City goal from the side of the net.

The Mallards had provided an early sign of things to come when Anthony Perdicaro weaved into the Bloomington goalmouth to lift the puck over the sprawling Pelletier just one minute and four seconds into the game. Less than two and a half minutes later, Hellyer stretched the Mallard lead to 2-0 by sweeping Mickey Lang's centering pass home. Bloomington's Matt Puntureri jammed the puck home from the doorstep to cut the gap in half at 7:49 of the first period, but the Mallards pushed their advantage out to 3-1 at 11:22 while shorthanded when Lang charged into the goalmouth to bury Hellyer's centering feed.
